Duties

Help

• Implement a progressive patient treatment plan and provide recommendations for modification, utilized and designed to restore range of motion, strength, endurance, coordination, as well as promote healing.
• Initiate progressive treatment plan with consideration of patient's neurological, surgical, sensory, respiratory, cardiac status, comorbidities, gait ability, posture, age, and general health.
• Share technical expertise with other therapy assistants, physical therapy students and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Participate in instructional programs by teaching other personnel in sound, proper methods of physical therapy treatment.
• Attend lectures, meetings, and conferences to provide subject matter expertise recommendations when required.
• Monitor patients undergoing treatment and identify patients with acute distress or with potential acuity change.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment and random screening thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing to meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
• This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network within 30 days of employment.
• This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• Incumbent must possess and maintain a current, active, and unrestricted license as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) implementing physical therapy treatment plans in an inpatient setting; 2) evaluating physical therapy patients; and 3) providing progress reports on physical therapy patients.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
