Emergency Department Technician (PRN) – Bronson Lakeview Hospital Under the supervision of a Registered Staff Nurse, the EDT provides technical patient care to a pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population as assigned by the RN. Responsibilities Assist the RN in gathering patient data and monitoring non‑invasive cardiac activity. Initiate and discontinue telemetry monitoring, including 12‑lead EKGs and continuous pulse oximetry. Perform 12‑lead EKGs within 5 minutes of patient arrival for chest‑pain protocol patients. Conduct phlebotomy on adults, children and geriatric patients. Perform point‑of‑care testing (urine pregnancy, blood glucose). Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs). Transport patients to inpatient units, diagnostic areas, and respond to Air Care flights. Perform decontamination procedures for contaminated patients. Assist orthopedic injuries, apply plaster splints, and support other orthopedic procedures. Maintain department readiness: stock rooms, relocate equipment, order supplies, and provide basic customer service. Monitor equipment battery life and ensure telemetry boxes are returned to the supply drawer. Document all activities in EPIC and maintain a clean, safe environment. Set up rooms for procedures such as eye exams, pelvic exams, lacerations, spinal taps, and nose bleed management. Manage bedside report hand‑off and assist on‑coming ED technicians; ensure RN receives shift briefings. Reposition bed‑fast patients to prevent bedsores, change linens, and run errands. Attend skill fairs, complete required training, and maintain competencies within the specified timeframes. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience and CNA license preferred. Must obtain BLS certification by the end of orientation and maintain it. Basic EKG certification with an 80% score or greater (required for flexibility into Monitor Tech role). Basic medical terminology knowledge. Successful completion of an accredited EMT program or RMA/CMA certification considered. 6–12 months of previous experience in a similar role required; 1‑year EMS or hospital‑based experience preferred. State of Michigan certification for new ED techs (new hires July1,2017) and current CNA certification or active nursing student status required. Complete the 12‑lead EKG course within 6 months of hire. Complete unit‑specific competencies within one year. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with patients, visitors and the healthcare team. #J-18808-Ljbffr
