Student Accounts Specialist

George Fox University's Student Accounts Department is seeking an experienced, highly motivated team player to join their team as a Student Account Specialist.
About the Job:
The Student Account Specialist manages all aspects of the "payment for college" process. This includes student accounts receivables, in the traditional sense, but we approach this task uniquely. With our customer service philosophy and our goal of helping students be wise stewards of their resources, we invest and participate in student's lives. Account Specialists have the authority and responsibility to extend grace, interpret and enforce policy, intervene and advise, assess risk and act accordingly, and recommend administrative actions.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responding to and greeting prospective and current students and families in person, by email, text, online video appointments and by phone regarding financial policies and the payment for college process; making referrals and advocating with the Financial Aid office and others about services, retention, and financial clearance.
- Managing assigned student accounts receivables through proactive customer services: problem solving, promoting sound financial decision-making, providing payment estimates, payment coaching and initiating follow up actions, through financial aid, and collecting.
- Exercising delegated authority and decision making for: financial clearance, payment plan approval/denial, granting financial hold exceptions, late fee penalties, and giving input in tuition financial appeals and decisions impacting retention.
- Using integrated student software systems to manage accounts: managing data and related tasks, analyzing and auditing student charges, reporting system issues, setting up and maintaining payment plans, receipt payments, managing student transitions, uploading and posting batches, impacting "service indicators" and testing software updates prior to implementation.
- Imparting knowledge to current students and their families in an organized cohesive way as well as making referrals and advocating.
- Reviewing and reporting Title IV regulatory compliance issues for withdrawn students (Federal Return of Title IV fund aid adjustments), refund requirements (Federal Cash Management rules), IRS 1098T reporting, and payment rules (Allowable vs Non-allowable Costs).
- Project management as assigned: running queries, exporting, using Excel to analyze data, initiating/delegating appropriate next action and following through. Efficiently and effectively use Google Suite tools for management of tasks, projects and as a communication tool.
- Delegating tasks to work-study students as needed.
- Innovating and improving processes: learning, training, initiating and contributing solutions, actively participating in an office that highly values problem solving and teamwork.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience working cross-culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
- Other duties as assigned.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- A High school diploma and some college experience.
- A demonstrated aptitude for technology and computers.
- Proficiency using Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

- High ownership and sense of responsibility within a "team" construct.
- The proven ability to work effectively under pressure or in a fast-paced environment.

- The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions
