Position Summary:


Under the direction of VP of Pharmacy Operations, the Director of Pharmacy Operations is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across both front-end and back-end pharmacy operations. This includes oversight of document intake, prescription data entry, inbound/outbound call center operations, dispensing support activities, fulfillment operations, shipping, workflow coordination, and overall operational performance. This role oversees managers and supervisors responsible for daily operations and is accountable for driving operational excellence, patient safety, regulatory compliance, speed to therapy, prescription accuracy, and exceptional service delivery across the pharmacy organization.

The Director of Pharmacy Operations partners closely with pharmacy leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to align operational priorities, establish and achieve daily, weekly, and monthly performance goals, and ensure consistent communication and execution across teams. This leader is responsible for fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and employee professional development while maintaining strong relationships with internal departments, external clients, and program stakeholders.

The Director of Pharmacy Operations develops and delivers operational reporting and performance analytics to assess organizational health, identify opportunities for improvement, optimize workflow efficiency, and support data-driven decision-making. This role also promotes high-quality customer service to both internal and external partners while ensuring adherence to all regulatory, safety, privacy, and organizational standards, including HIPAA and applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and oversight for pharmacy technician operational teams through direct management of supervisors and managers responsible for front-end and back-end pharmacy operations.
• Drive operational excellence initiatives focused on patient safety, prescription accuracy, workflow optimization, fulfillment efficiency, quality outcomes, and speed to therapy.
• Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to establish, communicate, and execute clearly aligned operational goals and performance expectations across all pharmacy operational areas.
• Develop, monitor, and analyze operational metrics, KPIs, productivity standards, turnaround times, fulfillment performance, and service level outcomes.
• Partner with director of compliance and regulatory affairs to ensure compliance with all pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, company policies, HIPAA requirements, and quality assurance initiatives.
• Lead workforce planning activities to ensure appropriate staffing levels, productivity standards, and operational efficiency across departments.
• Promote employee engagement, professional development, coaching, succession planning, and leadership growth across operational teams.
• Partner with internal departments and cross-functional teams to improve communication, coordination, and overall program effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships and strategic partnerships with external clients, vendors, manufacturers, and program stakeholders.
• Identify operational risks and implement process improvements to enhance service delivery, patient experience, fulfillment accuracy, and business performance.
• Support escalated operational, fulfillment, and customer service issues while ensuring timely resolution and service recovery.
• Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence.

Other Responsibilities:

• Participate in strategic planning initiatives and organizational growth activities.
• Assist with implementation of new programs, technologies, workflows, automation initiatives, and operational enhancements.
• Support audit preparation, accreditation activities, and regulatory inspections as needed.
• Contribute to budget planning, resource allocation, and cost management initiatives.
• Represent pharmacy operations in leadership meetings, client discussions, and cross-functional committees.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, specialty pharmacy operations, fulfillment best practices, and regulatory updates.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor's in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy Degree preferred.
• Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing in Arizona with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states as required for business needs.
• Additional non-resident state licenses preferred for business continuity.
  • States include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Iowa, Idaho, and Pennsylvania require registration.
• Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in specialty/mail-order pharmacy operations
• Minimum of 2-5 years of management experience, overseeing no fewer than 3 direct/indirect reports.
