The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic and critical part of patient care provided by the UNC Health Care system. UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is an adolescent and young adult behavioral health facility with UNC Health. The vision of UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is to be a leader in providing collaborative, client-centered behavioral health care utilizing an innovative, empathetic, and trauma-informed based model of treatment for pediatric patients with mental illness. Services are provided with respect and without regard for race, color, gender, national origin, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, insurance coverage, or income. The team is seeking a motivated and caring pharmacist that will help ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care at UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health.
UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is a 54-bed, 4-unit inpatient psychiatry facility for adolescents and young adults aged 9-24 years old with a variety of mental health diagnoses, including a unit for intellectual and developmental disorders. Within a milieu-based, trauma-informed, and therapeutic setting, patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapy Services, Social Workers, and Nursing Services. This facility aims to serve patients with a complex history, including aggression and psychosis. Safety is the key component of the care provided as well as introduction of positive coping skills, healthy living, and positive leisure activities. The staff are to be cross-trained on all four units as one team working under the same management team.

Responsibilities:
- Receives prescriptions, interprets prescriptions, and reviews the patient's medication profile /history. Clarifies incomplete, inaccurate, or contraindicated prescriptions with the prescriber, nurse, or other health professional, as appropriate. Identifies and intervenes on problems related to the medication needs of the patient.
- Utilizes and analyzes patient data to provide optimal drug therapy recommendations. Assesses the patient's medication therapy regimen and makes appropriate clinical interventions with the provider. Performs protocol-driven clinical services such as IV to oral dosing, stewardship activities, etc.
- Oversees the preparation and dispensing of medications.
- Complies with the medication formulary, and therapeutic substitution and other programs designed to optimize drug therapy while minimizing cost as required.
- Completes required documentation such as notations in the medical record, controlled substances documentation, competency, etc. as required.
- Counsels patients and appropriate family members regarding pharmaceutical care issues as requested or required.
- Directs workflow of the shift and supervises pharmacy technicians, students, and/or volunteers present during that shift.
- Adheres to federal, state, local and institutional policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
- Identifies and participates in process improvement opportunities.
- Precepts students, residents and participates in training new pharmacy staff as required.
Education Requirements: PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment.
Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
