3D Printing Specialist

Building Blocks Facades is a vertically integrated facade company. We design, engineer, manufacture, and install complex GFRC, UHPC, and specialty facade systems for commercial construction projects that most contractors will not take on.

Vertical integration is the point. Because we control design coordination, fabrication, logistics, and field installation under one roof, we can protect architectural intent while giving clients cost, schedule, and quality certainty that a fragmented supply chain cannot.

We are also building SIMPlex, a platform initiative to industrialize facade production through deployable, data-driven, automation-enabled manufacturing. Large-scale robotic 3D printing sits at the center of that initiative. If you have spent your career getting a large-format print cell to run reliably, day after day, at production speed, this is a company where that skill is the strategy rather than a side project.

Why This Role Exists

Robotic 3D printing at building scale is unforgiving. Bead geometry, deposition rate, material chemistry, and thermal behavior all have to hold together across a print that can run for hours and produce a part that becomes part of a building enclosure. A print that looks fine and isn't dimensionally or structurally sound is a fabrication failure discovered too late.

This role owns getting the print cell from job file to finished, in-tolerance part, run after run. It is equal parts machine operator, process technician, and materials scientist — someone who treats the printer as a production asset to be tuned and protected, not a black box to be babysat.

What You Will Own

Print Setup and Operation

• Running the large-scale robotic 3D printer end to end: reviewing the job file and toolpath, staging material, setting process parameters, and executing the print.

• Programming and adjusting toolpaths and print parameters (deposition rate, layer height, bead width, tool speed, temperature profile) in the printer's control and slicing software.

• Coordinating with design and engineering on printable geometry, and flagging files that need rework before they reach the machine.

• Running the robotic cell's supporting systems — extruder, heating, cooling, and any end-of-arm tooling — as one integrated process, not isolated components.

Materials and Process Control

• Managing material readiness: mix formulation or feedstock prep, moisture and temperature control, and pot life, so the printer is never waiting on material or fighting bad material.

• Monitoring bead consistency, layer adhesion, and cure behavior in real time, and adjusting process parameters before a defect becomes a scrapped part.

• Maintaining a process log for every print: parameters used, material lot, environmental conditions, and any interventions — the record that lets a defect be traced back to a cause.

• Running trial prints and process development work for new geometries, new materials, or new applications, and turning what works into a repeatable, documented setup.

Quality and Finishing

• Inspecting printed parts against dimensional tolerances, surface finish standards, and structural requirements before handoff.

• Driving non-conformance to root cause — machine, material, file, or process — rather than reprinting and moving on.

• Coordinating post-processing and finishing work (trimming, surface treatment, joining) with the shop floor so printed parts move cleanly into the next production step.

Equipment Care and Uptime

• Performing routine maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting on the printer and robotic arm to keep the cell production-ready.

• Owning the relationship with the equipment manufacturer and service partners for scheduled maintenance, firmware or software updates, and escalated repairs.

• Tracking machine uptime and downtime causes, and building the preventive maintenance discipline that keeps unplanned downtime rare.

Standards and Collaboration

• Working daily with the Automation Manager on production scheduling, throughput targets, and where the 3D printing cell fits the broader plant sequence.

• Documenting standard operating procedures, setup checklists, and troubleshooting guides as the cell's capabilities grow.

• Training additional operators as the program scales, and setting the standard for how prints are run and documented.

What We Are Looking For

Required

• Three or more years operating large-format robotic or gantry-based additive manufacturing systems (CEAD, Massive Dimension, Ingersoll, Cybe, or comparable) in a production or industrial manufacturing setting.

• Working knowledge of print process parameters and how they interact: deposition rate, layer adhesion, bead geometry, thermal behavior, and their effect on part quality.

• Comfort programming or editing toolpaths and machine parameters in CAM or slicing software, and reading a part file well enough to catch a problem before it prints.

• Hands-on troubleshooting ability across mechanical, robotic, and material-handling systems — you diagnose before you call for support.

• Familiarity with the materials used in large-format printing (fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, polymer systems).

• Ability to read dimensional tolerances and quality specifications and inspect printed parts against them.

• Based in or willing to relocate to the Merritt Island area.

Preferred

• Direct experience with UHPC, GFRC, or architectural concrete materials in a printed or cast application.

• Experience standing up a new print process or machine, rather than only operating an established one.

• Robotics, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, or materials science background — degree or field-earned equivalent.

• Experience training or mentoring other operators or technicians.

Location and Travel

Based at Building Blocks Facades headquarters in Merritt Island, Florida. Travel is minimal and occasional — equipment training, vendor support, or field installation support as needed. Relocation support is available for out-of-market hires.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive base salary commensurate with experience, plus performance incentives. Compensation is discussed early in the process so neither side wastes time. Florida has no state income tax, which is worth factoring into any comparison you are running.
