DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on repairing, maintaining, and inspecting a wide variety of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles and equipment. The role ensures that the fleet stays safe, dependable, and ready to support transportation operations across the Commonwealth. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Vehicle Repairs: Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment components
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out diagnostics, tune ups, and system adjustments on engines and mechanical parts
• State Inspections: Perform official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
• Diagnostic Evaluation: Identify equipment problems and determine repair methods using diagnostic tools and procedures
• Equipment Care: Maintain small motorized tools and report missing or damaged parts
• Safety Practices: Follow proper safety procedures, stay aware of hazards, and report injuries or equipment issues immediately

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Shifts may vary seasonally, due to weather, and based on operational needs
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
