Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school for the year completed.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification (ACGME, AOA, or other approved residency with at least five years of U.S. practice).
• For physicians currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who would otherwise meet the basic requirements, appointment as a Physician Resident Provider (PRP) is possible, subject to license and intermittent or fee-basis conditions.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred Experience: Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
• Physical Requirements: pre‑employment physical; lifting 15‑44 pounds; pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking and standing 3‑5 hours; rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision 13" to 16" Jaeger 1–4; far vision 20/20 in one eye to 20/40 in the other; depth perception and color discrimination; hearing aid permitted.

Duties

• Provide comprehensive, high‑quality inpatient medical care to hospitalized Veterans within an interdisciplinary team structure.
• Serve as primary attending physician for general medicine ward patients and supervise clinical trainees.
• Coordinate continuity of care across transitions, conduct quality improvement initiatives, and maintain documentation in VistA.
• Respond to rapid response calls, code blue resuscitations, and serve as Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) for general medicine admissions.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, care coordination meetings, and professional development activities.
• Engage with nursing, pharmacy, social work, case management, and specialty services to coordinate discharge planning and post‑acute disposition.

Work Schedule

Full‑time; shifts include 12‑hour day and overnight MOD assignments, with on‑call schedules as determined by facility staffing.
