Summary The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services to students with speech, language, and communication disorders. The SLP identifies students’ needs, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, and collaborates with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student learning and success in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) regulations. Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required Valid Mississippi Department of Education license in Speech-Language Pathology or ability to obtain appropriate licensure Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and MDE regulations related to speech and language services Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings preferred Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills Ability to provide therapy in both individual and group settings Commitment to student success and equitable access to services Essential Duties and Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, and provide therapy for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders Administer appropriate assessments and interpret results to determine eligibility for services Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives related to speech and language Provide direct and indirect therapy services to students in individual, small group, and classroom settings Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and other professionals to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom Participate in IEP meetings, student assistance teams, and multidisciplinary evaluations Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies Provide training, consultation, and resources to teachers and staff regarding communication strategies and classroom supports Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA Participate in professional development and remain current with best practices in speech‑language pathology Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or Principal Physical Demands and Working Conditions The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is further required to have physical, mental, and emotional stamina to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, and the mental acuity to collect, evaluate, and interpret data; to reason; to define problems; to establish facts; to draw valid conclusions; and to make effective judgments and decisions.
