Job Description PAROLE DIVISION, WAXAHACHIE, Texas Organization PAROLE DIVISION Primary Location United States - Texas - WAXAHACHIE Job Management Employee Status Regular Schedule Full-time (Travel: No) Pay Basis Monthly; Salary: $5,069.02 (Ret 2.5% Less) Overtime Status Exempt Job Summary Performs highly complex parole administration and supervision work. Work involves reviewing and approving parole supervision activities, parole investigations, parole release plans and reports; coordinating case assignments; conducting case analyses; and supervising the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Functions Plans, schedules, and supervises parole officer activities; coordinates parole supervision activities with other units, departments, and entities; and assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures. Visits offender residences, jails, correctional facilities, courthouses, social services, and other agencies to obtain offender information, coordinate parole investigations, and resolve problems. Conducts and supervises activities to monitor offender compliance with the conditions of supervision, including alcohol and drug testing. Performs criminal information searches and retrieval using Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history system access. Supervises the work of others; establishes and provides training to parole officers; reviews and evaluates documentation and recommendations; and counsels parole officers and offenders on difficult cases. Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education, Experience, and Training Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (major in Criminal Justice, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred). Substitutions: each year of experience above the required three years may replace thirty semester hours on a year‑for‑year basis (max two years). Three years full‑time, wage‑earning criminal justice, case management, case processing, or military experience. Parole officer experience preferred. Technical review or program evaluation experience preferred. Teaching, training, or staff development experience preferred. Must meet and maintain Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) access eligibility for continued employment. Must have a valid state driver license and maintain it for continued employment. Must obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policy and procedures training within six months; maintain TLETS access eligibility. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of principles of criminology and penology. Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, and practices of parole case management. Knowledge of psychological concepts of behavior, social adjustment, and emotional stability. Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and statutes regarding pardons and paroles. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports. Skill in problem‑solving techniques. Skill to effectively interview and counsel difficult offenders. Skill to evaluate offender adjustment and identify special problems. Skill to conduct investigations. Skill in public address. Skill to train and supervise the work of others.
