Job DescriptionGeneral Manager – District Energy Operations\nSyracuse, NY\n\nPosition Summary\nWe are seeking a strategic, operationally focused General Manager to lead CenTrio’s Syracuse District Energy operations.\n\nThis leadership role is responsible for overall operational performance, including P&L management, plant reliability, environmental compliance, safety, capital planning, and customer service delivery. The General Manager will play a critical role in driving operational excellence while partnering with executive leadership to support long-term growth strategies and infrastructure expansion initiatives.\n\nThe ideal candidate brings strong utility or district energy operational leadership experience, combined with financial acumen and a passion for developing high-performing teams and resilient energy systems.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nDistrict Energy & Utility Operations\n\n Lead operations and management of district energy systems including:\n Steam systems\n Chilled water systems\n Hot water systems\n Electricity generation and distribution\n Oversee utility infrastructure operations within a campus or large-scale facility environment\n Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of utility services\n\nCombined Heat & Power (CHP)\n\n Provide leadership and operational oversight for CHP (Combined Heat & Power) systems\n Optimize plant performance, reliability, and efficiency\n\nPlant Operations & Asset Management\n\n Oversee plant operations and distribution assets\n Drive system reliability, operational performance, and efficiency targets\n Lead maintenance planning and execution strategies\n Utilize CMMS platforms to manage preventative maintenance and asset lifecycle programs\n\nCapital Projects & Infrastructure\n\n Manage capital improvement and infrastructure expansion projects\n Oversee engineering and design coordination for distribution systems and interconnections\n Support project execution from planning through commissioning\n Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget\n\nEnvironmental, Health & Safety (EHS)\n\n Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and company policies\n Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement\n Utilize EHS management systems such as EHS Insight or equivalent platforms\n\nFinancial & Operational Leadership\n\n Maintain ownership of P&L performance and operational budgets\n Lead forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting activities\n Develop and monitor operational KPIs and performance metrics\n Support accounts payable, payroll administration, and operational financial systems\n\n\nSystems & Technical Tools\nEnterprise & Operational Systems\n\n CMMS platforms (e.g., MPulse or equivalent)\n EHS management systems\n Project management and operational reporting systems\n HR and payroll administration tools\n\nMicrosoft Office Suite\n\n Excel (financial analysis, modeling, KPI reporting)\n PowerPoint (leadership presentations and reporting)\n Word\n Outlook\n Visio (process mapping and system visualization)\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n Experience within utility, district energy, or large-scale infrastructure environments\n Strong understanding of thermal energy systems, boilers, chillers, and distribution networks\n Experience with infrastructure expansion and customer interconnection design\n Familiarity with utility billing systems, contract administration, and permitting processes\n Exposure to tax coordination activities related to utility operations\n\n\nPhysical Requirements\nThis role includes both office and field-based work supporting active utility infrastructure systems.\n\n Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and use of tools or controls\n Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, or working in confined spaces\n Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs\n Work may involve elevated temperatures, humidity, and outdoor/elevated environments including rooftops and cooling towers\n\n\nHealth, Safety & Environment (HSE) Responsibilities\n\n Promote and maintain a safe work environment for all employees\n Comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and procedures\n Identify and report workplace hazards and support corrective actions\n Immediately report
