13-Week Contract | Full-Time Days | Bethesda, Maryland

We are seeking one experienced Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse to provide procedural and perioperative care at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday

• 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Participation in the 24-hour on-call rotation

• Weekday, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage required

Minimum Qualifications

• Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth

• Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution

• Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN

• At least two years of current interventional radiology nursing experience

• Current Basic Life Support certification

• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification

• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification

• Demonstrated current competency in procedural nursing and moderate sedation

• Effective English communication skills

• Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation

• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Primary Responsibilities

• Assess patients before, during, and after interventional radiology procedures

• Review patient history, laboratory results, allergies, medications, consent, and procedural readiness

• Prepare patients, procedure rooms, equipment, medications, and supplies

• Assist physicians and the procedural team during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

• Administer and monitor moderate sedation when qualified, authorized, and assigned

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythm, oxygenation, ventilation, vital signs, pain, and level of consciousness

• Recognize complications and initiate appropriate emergency interventions

• Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice

• Provide vascular-access, biopsy-site, drain, and catheter-related care

• Follow radiation-safety, infection-control, sterile-technique, and patient-safety requirements

• Provide pre-procedure and discharge education to patients and families

• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation

• Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, anesthesia personnel, nurses, and other healthcare professionals

• Respond within the facility’s required timeframe while assigned to on-call coverage

• Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities

Additional Requirements

Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
