Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse

Role Overview The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse is responsible for overseeing wound, ostomy, and skin care programs, providing expert consultation for complex wounds, fistulas, and incontinence-related skin issues. They develop, evaluate, and educate staff, patients, and families on wound and ostomy care, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based practices aligned with nursing standards and ethical principles. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to plan, implement, and assess patient care, supporting patient self-management and serving as a clinical preceptor. They monitor regulatory compliance, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and lead workgroups to analyze wound and ostomy trends. Key qualifications include a graduate of an accredited WOCN program with current certification, active RN license, BLS, and minimum one year RN experience. Skills required encompass critical thinking, effective communication, time management, and adaptability.
