Key Responsibilities

Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate player injuries and illnesses. Report directly to the Head Coach / VP of Hockey Operations with timely, daily updates on all injuries, treatment plans, player status, and availability. Develop and manage return-to-play and injury-prevention programs. Provide medical coverage for all practices, games, and team travel. Work closely with team physicians, specialists, coaches, and hockey operations regarding player health and availability, ensuring the Head Coach is always kept fully informed. Manage concussion assessment, baseline testing, and return-to-play protocols. Schedule medical appointments, imaging, and specialist consultations. Maintain accurate and confidential player medical records. Manage the medical room, equipment, supplies, and athletic training budget. Assist with player recovery, mobility, warm-up, and rehabilitation programming. Travel with the team for all road games and team activities.

Requirements

Degree from an accredited Athletic Training program. Current BOC Certified Athletic Trainer certification. Current Illinois Athletic Trainer license or ability to obtain one prior to employment. Current CPR/AED and Basic Life Support certification. Strong knowledge of orthopedic injury evaluation, rehabilitation, emergency care, and concussion management. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel throughout the season. Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous professional, NCAA, major junior, or high-level hockey experience. Two or more years of athletic training experience preferred. Master's degree in Athletic Training or a related field. Dry needling training and certification is considered a strong asset but is not required. Experience with manual therapy, Graston/IASTM, cupping, or other rehabilitation techniques. CSCS, EMT, or other advanced certifications are considered assets.
