Telephone/Switchboard OperatorPosition Summary: The Telephone/Switchboard Operator provides 24/7 telecommunications and emergency call support for a VA Medical Center and affiliated clinics. This position plays a critical role in patient care, safety, and emergency response operations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Answer all incoming internal and external calls promptly and professionallyOperate computerized switchboard and paging systemsRoute patient, staff, and public inquiries appropriatelyRespond to emergency calls, alarms, disaster codes, and 911 notificationsAnnounce emergency codes using public address and paging systemsMaintain call logs, incident records, and ward informationAssist callers with placing outgoing callsMonitor alarm systems and emergency communication equipmentProvide calm, professional service to distressed or difficult callersUse Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel for reportingComply with HIPAA, VA policies, and security requirementsRequired Qualifications:High school diploma or Associated Degree1–2 years of call center or telephone operator experienceMedical terminology knowledge preferredStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to pass background check and security clearanceHIPAA and VA training required (provided)Work Environment:On-site medical facilityRotating shifts; no permanent shift assignmentsVA-provided equipment
