Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - Cancer Prevention

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) – Advanced Clinical Provider needed in the Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention to deliver outpatient care in the Cancer Prevention Center and the Undiagnosed Breast Clinic. The role includes prevention and survivorship care, patient education, and support for clinical research initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate across a team, communicate effectively, and commit to ongoing professional development. Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Possible schedule, subject to change based on patient demand:

• 4 days per week at Texas Medical Center
• 1 administrative day per week

Key Functions Patient Care Provides quality patient care related to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development, and other identified needs. Assesses health status by performing medical history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment. Provides health care throughout the disease process: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative and terminal care. Communicates findings verbally and documents findings in writing. Prevents, minimizes, and manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physicians and other allied personnel. Research Contributes to research efforts by identifying clinical problems amenable to research methods and collaborating in research projects. Applies pertinent research to clinical practice. Service Schedules consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, and future appointments for patients in coordination with the attending physician. Monitors laboratory, clinical radiographic, and procedural data for daily rounds, evaluates data visually, and prepares written information. Walks to coordinate among hospital areas to pick up and distribute information. Education Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an APRN from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Physician Assistant: Master’s degree from an accredited PA program certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA), unless graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. Experience Preferred: At least one year of experience in an Advanced Practice Provider role. Experience in primary care, gynecology – clinical breast exams, pap tests, prostate exams. Prior oncology experience. Licensure / Certification Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an APRN or equivalent. Basic Life Support (BLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in pediatric departments. MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. Physician Assistant: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants; licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligibility for limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet BLS, ACLS, or PALS if working in a pediatric department.
