Forklift Operator

The Forklift Operator is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving steel and heavy materials using high-capacity forklift equipment. This role supports warehouse operations by safely handling materials, maintaining accurate inventory, and following all operational and safety procedures.

Function in the Job

Medium/Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Job Function

• Operate forklift to lift, move, position, and stock steel and heavy materials
• Load and unload trucks, trailers, and/or railcars
• Assemble and prepare customer orders based on work orders
• Document, tag, and track inventory received and shipped
• Maintain accurate inventory using system entries and paperwork
• Verify product counts and ensure order accuracy
• Coordinate with warehouse team members to complete tasks efficiently
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of work areas
• Perform additional warehouse or equipment tasks as assigned

Required Skills

• Minimum 1 year of experience operating heavy-capacity forklifts (25,000 lbs. + preferred)
• Ability to operate forklifts safely in a fast-paced industrial environment
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions
• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• Good hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
• High safety awareness and compliance mindset
• Ability to work in outdoor/industrial conditions (heat, humidity, moving equipment)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, heat, humidity, and noise
• Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and movement of heavy materials
• Operation of heavy machinery and working around moving equipment
• Must wear required PPE at all times (hard hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses, etc.)

• Maintain awareness of surroundings and pedestrians
• Keep loads stable and under control during operation
• Follow all pre-use equipment inspection procedures
• Report unsafe conditions or equipment immediately
