For over a half century, Avcon Industries, Inc. has designed complex special-mission and ISR aircraft modifications. Avcon provisions aircraft with custom Pods, camera ports, radomes, equipment racks, mission consoles, underwing stores, and more. Avcon modifications support surveillance, patrol, target towing, search and rescue, and aerial survey missions. Avcon provides Turn-Key Product Design, Manufacture, Installation, Testing and FAA Certification Support.

SUMMARY:

We are looking for skilled and motivated individuals to join our fast-paced modification installation team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on knowledge with aircraft Electrical Avionics Systems, modification installations, wire harness buildings and be proficient in utilizing diagrams to determine wiring installation procedures and requirements for completion of custom and complex projects. This role requires technical proficiency, strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team.

DUTIES :

  • Be able to read wiring diagrams, interpret wiring diagrams and construct wire harnesses.
  • Be able to remove, identify, and tag the location of equipment in the aircraft.
  • Be able to carefully work with large numbers of wire in an organized fashion, organize any changes in wiring and be capable of documenting completed work that may differ from the wiring diagrams or drawings.
  • Be able to troubleshoot systems utilizing applicable drawings, diagrams, manuals and applicable software.
  • Be able to understand general aircraft wiring practices, circuit breakers and aircraft electrical bus theory.
  • Be able to follow the aircraft drawings to make modifications as necessary to the aircraft.
  • Be able to provide appropriate changes to electrical wiring consistent with Federal Aviation Administration approved practices.
  • Be able to reinstate and reinstall all equipment that was removed for aircraft modification.
  • Report to supervisor any work that will not pass aircraft inspection or appear inadequate.
  • Be able to understand and operate in accordance with the FAA approved Repair Station Manual,
  • FAA Advisory Circulars and manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Be open to possible travel on occasions.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by Avcon Industries

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous hands-on experience with planning and executing Electrical Avionics installations, modifications and wire harness building.
    • Minimum of 3 years or 2 years and be a graduate of an accredited aircraft maintenance school
    • Specific/Specialized Military Experience will be considered
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to interpret, follow and execute aircraft diagram
  • FAA A&P is desirable but not required
  • Must be able to pass drug and alcohol tests, as required by the FAA and Avcon policies
  • Familiarity with Turbo Prop (King Air, Cessna Caravan) desired
  • May be required to work overtime, abnormal hours, rotate jobs and shifts as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have hands-on experience with installation and application of varying types of Avionics/Electrical parts, components and materials
  • Experience cutting wire to length, stripping insulation from wire ends, and insulating connections with plastic sleeves
  • Perform routing, pinning, connector installation and other applications for installations and repairs as necessary
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems, coaxial cable and aircraft accessories
  • Plan and lay out wiring sequences and processes based on specifications to carry out complex troubleshooting, repairs and installations successfully
  • Must be able to attach wire or complicated electrical systems to fixtures and accessories, transformers, instrument panels, and circuit breaker panels using fasteners, bolts, screws, or solder
  • Read and interpret complex diagrams, and technical drawings to determine project requirements
  • Operate and maintain a variety of industry specific tools and general hand tools
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fabrication and installation issues or defects, making necessary adjustments to meet quality and safety requirements
  • Collaborate with engineers and managers to determine and ensure feasibility of modifications and production timelines
  • Document fabrication and installation processes and maintain records of work performed

Physical Requirements: Minimum physical requirements are as follows:

  • Must have sufficient dexterity to access and work in and around cramped and confined spaces.
  • Lifting: Must lift greater than 45 pounds repetitively throughout the day
  • Must be able to lift, hold move 60 pounds while standing
  • Flexibility: Must have the ability to Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend/Crouch/Stoop, Climb, Squat, Crawl, Drive, Kneel, Twist, Balance and Reach continuously and alternate for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to perform Above Chest Level/Above Shoulder Work, Lift/Carry, Push/Pull greater than 40 pounds frequently
  • Must be able to work within 18 inches from the body
  • Must be able to regularly work in awkward bending, kneeling and/or twisting positions
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination, be capable of fine finger manipulation and possess Vision minimum of at least 20/40 required in at least one eye
  • Ability to grip and handle general and specialized tools while supporting their weight.
    • Note: Vibration may be transmitted from some tools
  • Must have the ability to walk up/down ladders and stands, often while carrying tools

Environmental Conditions: Daily Operations take place inside a hangar with occasional work outside. May be required to work during variable temperatures while hangar doors are open or when working in inside of aircraft compartments. May be exposed to dust, continuous noise while aircraft modifications and repairs are being performed from tools, aircraft engines, industrial equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety glasses and hearing protection.

Sitting: Remaining in the normal seated position

Standing: Remaining on one’s feet in an upright position at a workstation without moving about Squatting: Lowering the body into a sitting position and supporting with the thigh muscles only Twisting: Rotating torso of the body out of alignment with hips and/or feet

Walking: Moving about on foot

Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with occasional overtime
