Pharmacy TechnicianKlickitat Valley Health - GOLDENDALE, WA 98620Salary Range $26.35 - $32.13 Hourly Position Type Part Time 20 hours/wk Job Shift Varied ShiftsDescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY :The Pharmacy Technician provides pharmacological support services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications for patient care, consistent with the prescriptions/orders of a healthcare provider. The Pharmacy Technician consistently demonstrates excellence in customer service during interactions with patients, families, and other customers, and works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal outcomes for our patients in a compassionate, professional, ethical, and knowledgeable manner. The Pharmacy Technician is aware of the potential exposure to internal and external hazardous materials. Part-time positions are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off and participate in the retirement plan.QualificationsMinimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):Must be at least 18 years or olderHigh school diploma or GED required.Current Washington State Pharmacy Technician license and National Pharmacy Technician certification.Knowledge/comprehension of basic computer skills required.Experience:One (1) year of recent full-time experience in an outpatient, retail, or acute care pharmacy department is required.Essential Functions / Responsibilities (but not limited to):Supports the organization's mission, vision, and values.Answers phone and/or questions related to pharmacy services and prescription status, or floor stock/Pyxis inventory from other staff and providers.Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; places orders for medications and supplies based on anticipated need; verifies receipt of items ordered and removes outdated medications and supplies from inventory; disposes according to hospital procedure and governmental regulation.Refills, loads, and unloads medications in the ADD by selecting the correct medication and strength.Performs monthly inspections of all areas where medications are stored and removes any expired medications, open MDVs that have not been dated, and any open SDVs.Unit doses bulk medications and prepares emergency department take-home packs in accordance with Washington State guidelines.May assemble intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies as ordered by the provider.Performs duties in a manner that optimizes patient safety, adheres to infection prevention protocols, takes precautions to reduce the likelihood of medication/health care errors, and is accountable for ensuring patient safety.Maintains departmental records by recording and filling providers' prescriptions/orders, as well as other general department information; may prepare reports as needed to demonstrate departmental activity/volume, charges/revenue generated.Files and retrieves various pharmacy records as requiredOperates cash register and related front counter tasksCounts, reconstitutes, and pours from stock bottles for individual prescriptionsEnters prescription data into the computer and monitors label printingChecks all prescription orders for completeness of informationConsults with others as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care; and communicates clearly (both written and verbal) with nursing staff, provider, and other hospital staff to ensure the care needs of the patient are met.Follow hospital procedures when disposing of pharmaceutical waste or biohazardous materials, including labeling and proper handling of materials.Maintains a safe, clean, and organized environment that is efficient.Complies with all hospital policy and procedures, while upholding the high expectations of KVH.Attends 100% of mandatory in-services.Attends any other meetings as requested by other departments.Performs other duties as assigned.
