Speech/Language Pathologist (2 positions) – GCPS JobID: 982 Position Type: Special Education Date Posted: 5/15/2025 Location: To Be Determined FTE: Full-time Status: Exempt (Teacher bargaining unit) Terms: 197 days, generally 8 hours per day, but the workday may be greater based upon the needs of the system Salary: Unit I Certificated Salary Scale – 8 hr Schedule ($63,317 - $72,982), commensurate with education and experience Supervisor: Director of Special Education Availability: 2025-2026 School Year Deadline: Until filled Job Description The speech language pathologist will provide speech/language services to students who have identified speech/language needs or those referred for speech language evaluation. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree or equivalency in speech language pathology Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene license or be eligible for a provisional license Successful completion of a required criminal, drug, and tuberculosis screenings Provide proof of United States citizenship or legal resident alien status Valid driver's license and dependable daily transportation Excellent written and verbal skills Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (students, parents, staff, administration, community agencies, etc.) Proficiency in a variety of technologies and applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite Successful management of confidential information and materials Demonstrated attention to detail Self‑motivated with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment Ability to work on multiple and concurrent tasks while experiencing frequent interruptions History of professionalism and strong work ethic Ability to work independently and as a team member to meet intensive deadlines Ability to serve as a positive role model in the workplace and within the community Ability to maintain emotional control while addressing stressful situations Ability to work prolonged and irregular hours, as necessary Physical abilities: stand, sit, walk, feel, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, push, pull, and carry; lift moderately heavy objects averaging 50-70 lbs.; good hearing, vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision; significant dexterity of hands and fingers Regular and predictable attendance Ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodations Preferred Qualifications Doctoral Degree in applicable field American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence Minimum three (3) years of experience working with elementary, middle, or high school level students Duties and Responsibilities Provide speech/language assessment for students referred by the IEP Team and/or Infants and Toddlers Program. Attend IEP/IFSP meetings for students with identified speech/language needs. Serve as a case manager of the IEP for students with speech/language disability. Schedule and implement therapy for identified students. Maintain open communication with all staff, related service members, parents, and students. Develop and implement the IEP/IFSP for those students with identified speech/language services. Maintain up‑to‑date special education files for all students with speech/language services. Maintain accurate attendance records, logs of student progress, daily lesson plans that coordinate with IEP/ISFP, progress reports, and medical assistance billing. Coordinate school program with the home. Maintain all needed forms and records as required by the school and program policy and procedure, plus those forms required for state and federal reports. Develop and provide needed professional development. Maintain a Maryland State certification in speech language pathology. Provide services in various settings, including, but not necessarily limited to, Head Start centers, homes, private daycares, schools, etc. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Serve on committees, as necessary. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Account for and order program equipment and supplies, as necessary. Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and appropriate job‑related professional development. Improve skill and knowledge base in subject matter, current trends, research, methodology, technology, multicultural content, problem‑solving strategies, and interdisciplinary connections. Engage in life‑long learning of professional and technical knowledge by attending appropriate workshops, reviewing professional publications and websites, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. Contribute to the short‑term and long‑term successes of students, staff, school, and the system in general. Present courteous and professional demeanor at all times. Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self‑motivation, accountability and ownership, and a positive demeanor. Perform other duties as assigned.
