You will partner with applied scientists and hardware engineers, lead designs across teams, and help set the technical direction for your area. Relevant backgrounds include perception, SLAM and navigation, controls, autonomy and task execution, and real-time robotics software, as well as experience deploying learned behavior models such as vision-language-action (VLA) models or VLM- and LLM-based planners on robots.Join us in building the next generation of intelligent robotics systems that will transform the future of automation and human-robot collaboration.Key job responsibilities:Lead the design and delivery of on-robot subsystems, such as perception, SLAM and navigation, dexterous manipulation, low level controls, or task execution, from architecture through deployment on robots, and guide the engineers building it with youPrototype quickly with applied scientists, then take the algorithms and learned models that work to production components that meet the robot's real-time, compute, and safety constraints on embedded GPU platformsDefine the interfaces, timing, and data contracts between perception, planning, control, and the learned policies that run alongside themMake your components observable with metrics and telemetry, and lead system-level debugging of failures seen on real robotsLead design reviews for the team and partner teams, and write documents for both technical and non-technical audiencesMentor engineers on the team in robotics and software engineering, and raise the bar for how we build, test, and operate robot softwareBasic qualifications:5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experienceExperience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering teamBachelors or Master's degree and 10+ years in CS, ME, EE or related field experienceExperience with robotics middleware like ROS, ZCM, or ZenohExperience designing and shipping software for physical robots or other real-time embedded systems, with deep expertise in at least one robotics area such as perception, SLAM, navigation, controls, or autonomyPreferred qualifications:Master's degree or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldExperience taking robotics algorithms or machine learning models from research prototype to production on real hardware, in close partnership with applied scientistsExperience with mobile manipulation, locomotion, or dexterous manipulationExperience integrating learned policies on a real robot (e.g., imitation or reinforcement learning, vision-language-action models, LLM-based task planning)Experience with real-time systems, including scheduling, deterministic timing, and sensor synchronizationExperience deploying and optimizing models and perception pipelines on embedded GPUs (e.g., PyTorch, CUDA, TensorRT, NVIDIA Jetson)Experience with test-driven development and automated testing of robotics software, including regression testing of robot behavior with logged data, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop testingExperience using AI coding assistants and agents to speed up development, with sound judgment about reviewing and verifying their outputExcellent written and verbal communication, with a track record of leading technical work across science and engineering teamsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
