PRN Hospital Pharmacist

Job Summary Working in a hospital system pharmacy outsourced to Cardinal Health, the Pharmacist II adjusts and dispenses medication to patients and drives the compliant and efficient operations of the pharmacy. The Pharmacist verifies physician orders using the pharmacy information system, makes adjustments according to protocols for a given medication, and provides patient education. This job also supervises Pharmacy Technicians and manages compliance tasks related to accreditation, narcotics control, and inventory management. Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at PAM Health Rehab Hospital of Hampden located in Enola, PA. We are currently recruiting for a PRN Pharmacist for as needed coverage during weekdays and for on‑call coverage after hours and weekends. Facility hours are Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 4:30PM. Responsibilities Apply expert knowledge of drugs and related protocols to verify physician orders for medications using the pharmacy information system. Check drug and dose against the stated patient issue and address automated alerts from the system regarding drug type, dose, and other metrics. Supervise Pharmacy Technicians to ensure compliant and efficient operations, reviewing their work in accordance with State Boards of Pharmacy regulations and providing guidance on complex prescriptions, pharmacy automation systems, and related issues. Adjust dosages based on established protocols for each drug, ensuring appropriateness for the patient’s condition and concurrent medications, and complete clinical tasks related to antimicrobial stewardship. Educate patients on the proper use and expected effects of medications, particularly when patients are on multiple drugs, are starting new regimens, or are being discharged. Manage narcotics and inventory control and compliance, including regular documentation and completion of checklists. Audit outdated medication in states where Pharmacy Technicians are not permitted to do so. Contact nurses and physicians as necessary to verify orders and obtain additional information regarding the order. Assist the Pharmacy Director in maintaining pharmacy accreditation and implementing operational changes, such as new systems or procedural adjustments. Participate in pharmacy on‑call rotation as assigned, providing operational support and guidance outside of regular business hours based on department needs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or PharmD. Good standing licensed Pharmacist in the state of Pennsylvania. Inpatient/hospital experience preferred. IV compounding experience preferred. Ability to hear, write, and speak clearly to communicate with patients and health‑care professionals. Strong customer service skills. Computer savvy to learn and operate multiple pharmacy information systems. Ability to work on call and participate in weekend call rotation. Ability to report on site within 90 minutes of receiving a call. Ability to occasionally lift up to 35pounds and perform necessary bends, reaches, stoops, lifts, and standing for the entire shift. May require vendor credentialing. Compensation and Benefits Anticipated hourly range: $50.10 – $71.70 per hour. Bonus eligible: No. Benefits: Paid time off in compliance with applicable laws.
