Position Overview The Quarry Manager will be responsible for overall management and coordination of the production and shipping activities for a 2 million ton per year Rip Rap and Construction Aggregate producing site.The individual must be able to assume responsibility of the manufacturing process to ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and that prescribed product quality standards are maintained at the highest possible level. Additional focus on production planning, methods and control, budgeting and forecasting, pit development, maintenance, site planning, quality control and other related operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: To oversee and direct all aggregate operations, including quarry development, drill/ blast, aggregate plant operations and mobile equipment maintenance and selection at assigned locations. Sets site operating goals and objectives, manages the production and loading processes by setting and monitoring performance targets Communicates vision and provides direction. Provides continuous, constructive feedback to direct reports and identifies development opportunities. Conduct annual evaluations of direct reports. Motivates employees to highest potential, build effective teams and assist with all training initiatives Act as the responsible person for all site activities not specifically managed through other lines of business. Enforce company safety rules and conduct safety meetings, daily shift start-up meetings, including tool box talks; ensure facilities are operating in a safe manner. Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, in a timely and effective manner. Ensure that all operations are in full compliance with federal and state regulations, including MSHA, DEP, etc. Cost responsibility at assigned aggregate facilities. Strive to lower cost and increase productivity through efficiency and innovations. Ensure that the workplace is kept in a neat, clean, tidy and safe condition. This includes the crusher, office, storage areas, and yard. Maintain proper job records such as schedules, personal diary, etc. Other Requirements Experience in a union environment is preferred. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual. Good people skills, capable of developing and maintaining positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers and the general public at all times. Solid understanding of aggregate processing and equipment as well as environmental regulations Experience with marine and barge loading operations desired Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary Supervisory Responsibility Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary. Planning, assigning, and directing work. Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate. Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary. Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner. Lead by example. Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices. Personal Protective Equipment Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas. Protective equipment required for this position: Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hat, Eye protection, High Visibility Clothing, Respiratory Protection, and Safety (hard toe) Shoes. Qualification Requirements Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities. Education and/ or Experience 5 or more years of experience in managing operations with a demonstrated record of progressive advancement Bachelor's degree in mining or civil engineering preferred. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents, reports, and company manuals. Ability to write detailed correspondence, effectively present information, and be able to respond to questions from management, staff, customers and the general public.
