Senior Software Engineer (COBOL)

Job DescriptionIngram Content Group (ICG) is currently seeking a Senior Software Developer - COBOL, to join our team in LaVergne, TN (Greater Nashville area). This person delivers enterprise-grade software solutions with high customer impact. You will work with a team of sr. engineers specializing in an enterprise order processing application running on MVS using mainly relational database technology (DB2). As the Senior Software Engineer, you will perform all aspects of the development life cycle. You’ll have the option to code using the traditional TSO/ISPF approach or you’ll have tools like Visual Studio Code available as a GUI approach with AI built in. This position will be hybrid and will be expected to work from the Ingram headquarters 4 days per week with the 5th day remote.Want to help explore and build new ways to deliver content to the world?At Ingram, our Technology team is blazing a trail by providing content distribution services to thousands of publishers with key initiatives around business intelligence, machine learning, continuous integration and omnichannel.  We support diverse people and technology that highlights innovation through SaaS platforms, metadata, cloud, and containerization.   Our teams are agile, and emphasize authenticity, creativity, and transparency upon a fact-based foundation.  The world is reading, and it is our goal to connect as many people as possible to the content they want in the simplest ways.  If you are an IT professional who strives to deliver results through collaborative partnerships, understanding what drives business, and enjoys working in a connected culture, we can’t wait to meet you!  The ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or directly related experience 6+ years development experience as application engineer/sr. programmer analyst 5+ years mainframe COBOL and/or Mainframe/iSeries development experience 5+ years relational database experience We have a preference for: Strong COBOL development experience on mainframe platforms, with expertise in TSO/ISPF and enterprise batch/online processingStrong database skills including DB2, Oracle, and SQLUnderstanding of logistics order-to-delivery process, distribution functions or transportation processesExperience developing design patterns, standards, and best practices; provides technical leadership and oversight, including third‑party and database integrationsAbility to use modern COBOL development environments and AI‑enabled tools to analyze legacy code, accelerate development, and support modernization efforts.Leads and executes full application development lifecycle activities, including requirements, design, development, testing, quality assurance, and deploymentReviews and evaluates application workflow, usability, and performance; ensures solutions meet defined specifications and standards.Demonstrated ability to mentor others, guide technical work, and collaborate across teams and technical domainsThe Senior Cobol Developer’s key responsibilities are:Develops, tests, and implements changes to existing mainframe COBOL programs/applications including integration with MQ and API middleware.Works closely with client resources to assist in solution design and implementationSupports user/customer community to capture system requirements.Works with multiple systems (i.e. Order Processing, Warehouse Processing, Billing, Sales, Credit Processing)Manages projects that require work from others. Communicates project status and issues.Enforces good development practices.Investigates new technologies and new techniques.Develops and modifies internal facing software applications.Provides application development life cycle support including specifications, prototypes, development, quality assurance, deployment and support.Reviews and evaluates application workflow and user experience.Provides adequate tests to ensure program meets specified requirements.Coordinates with users and product owners to gather requirements.Hiring Salary Range: $110,981 - $141,123k. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. It will be determined by factors including but not limited to: the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
