The Department of Neurology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks an accomplished, board-certified neurologist with fellowship training in Epilepsy to serve as Division Chief of Epilepsy at the rank of Professor of Neurology. The successful candidate will provide strategic, academic, clinical, and administrative leadership for a well-established and growing epilepsy program within a nationally recognized academic medical center. The Division Chief will be responsible for defining and executing the Division’s strategic direction, expanding clinical programs and patient access, recruiting and developing faculty, strengthening education and research, and ensuring the long-term operational and financial sustainability of the Division. The successful candidate will maintain an appropriate clinical practice and scholarly portfolio while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive culture across the Division and its multidisciplinary partners.Entity

Position SummaryThe Department of Neurology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks an accomplished, board-certified neurologist with fellowship training in Epilepsy to serve as Division Chief of Epilepsy at the rank of Professor of Neurology. The successful candidate will provide strategic, academic, clinical, and administrative leadership for a well-established and growing epilepsy program within a nationally recognized academic medical center.
The Division Chief will be responsible for defining and executing the Division’s strategic direction, expanding clinical programs and patient access, recruiting and developing faculty, strengthening education and research, and ensuring the long-term operational and financial sustainability of the Division. The successful candidate will maintain an appropriate clinical practice and scholarly portfolio while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive culture across the Division and its multidisciplinary partners.
Leadership and Administrative Responsibilitie s· Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for the Division of Epilepsy in alignment with the priorities of the Department of Neurology, MUSC Health, and the College of Medicine.
· Develop and execute a multi-year divisional growth plan addressing clinical services, access, faculty recruitment, workforce planning, research, education, quality, and financial performance.
· Lead the expansion and optimization of outpatient epilepsy services, the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, neurophysiology services, epilepsy surgery, and other advanced diagnostic and therapeutic programs.
· Recruit, retain, mentor, and develop faculty and advanced practice providers; establish clear expectations and support professional advancement and academic promotion.
· Conduct regular faculty development and performance discussions and promote a culture of professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
· Partner with departmental and health-system leaders on budgeting, resource allocation, productivity planning, space, staffing, and capital needs.
· Monitor divisional performance through clinical access, quality, safety, patient experience, productivity, financial, educational, and research metrics; implement corrective or growth strategies as needed.
· Represent the Division in departmental, College of Medicine, health-system, and external forums and build productive relationships with referring providers and regional partners.
· Support philanthropic engagement, strategic partnerships, and program development opportunities that advance the epilepsy mission.
Clinical Responsibilities· Provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with epilepsy and related seizure disorders within the MUSC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.
· Participate in outpatient epilepsy care and inpatient or Epilepsy Monitoring Unit service consistent with the candidate’s leadership, research, and academic effort allocation.
· Promote multidisciplinary treatment planning and collaboration with neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neuropsychology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, nursing, advanced practice providers, and other clinical partners.
· Advance access, quality, safety, patient experience, and care standardization across epilepsy services.
· Support growth of appropriate referrals and downstream advanced epilepsy services, including surgical evaluation and neuromodulation programs.
Research and Scholarly Responsibilities· Maintain a record of scholarly achievement consistent with appointment at the rank of Professor of Neurology.
· Provide leadership for the Division’s clinical, translational, and collaborative research portfolio and foster an environment that supports innovation and discovery.
· Mentor junior and mid-career faculty, fellows, residents, and other trainees in research development, publication, grant preparation, and academic advancement.
· Promote interdisciplinary and multi-institutional partnerships and support growth in externally funded research.
· Contribute to the national visibility and academic reputation of MUSC through scholarship, presentations, service, and leadership in professional organizations.
Education and Mentorship Responsibilitie s· Provide leadership and support for epilepsy education across medical student, neurology residency, epilepsy fellowship, and continuing professional development programs.
· Participate actively in teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, and other health professionals.
· Partner with program leaders to maintain a strong epilepsy fellowship and develop the fellowship as a pipeline for future academic faculty.
· Promote educational innovation, effective evaluation, and a learning environment grounded in excellence, professionalism, and inclusion.
Program HighlightsThe MUSC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, the highest designation awarded by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. The program provides advanced diagnostic services, multidisciplinary treatment planning, a full spectrum of medical and surgical therapies, and integrated psychosocial and supportive care. The program is supported by a dedicated team of clinicians, researchers, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary partners.
Required Qualifications· MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
· Board certification in Neurology and board certification or eligibility in Epilepsy or Clinical Neurophysiology, as applicable to the candidate’s training and practice.
· Fellowship training in Epilepsy or Clinical Neurophysiology with substantial epilepsy expertise.
· Eligibility for an unrestricted South Carolina medical license and appropriate medical staff privileges.
· Academic record and national reputation that meet MUSC criteria for appointment at the rank of Professor of Neurology.
· Demonstrated record of leadership, clinical excellence, scholarship, education, mentorship, and program development.

· Experience leading faculty, clinical programs, research initiatives, or multidisciplinary teams in an academic health system.

Compensation and Benefits· Salary Range: UNIV - Band 0, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
· FLSA Status: Exempt (Salaried).
· Faculty rank and appointment are subject to applicable College of Medicine and University criteria.
