Nutrition Educator - 64068668

This is an internal opportunity only. Only current Department of Health employees will be considered. Your specific responsibilities include providing nutrition education services to clients enrolled in the Highlands County Nutrition program for Women, Infant, and Children (WIC Program). This position requires professional work in certifying clients for participation in the WIC program, providing nutrition education on a group or individual basis, developing nutrition education plans, and following policies and procedures for data management. You will also be responsible for planning, conducting, and evaluating group nutrition education classes, providing breastfeeding education, reviewing WIC operational reports, assisting in the preparation of strategic plans, and providing staff training.

Required knowledge includes principles and techniques of effective communication, anthropometric measurements, current science and practice of food and nutrition, normal nutrition principles, meal planning, food budgeting, and purchasing. Required skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, obtaining information to make decisions, analyzing and explaining regulations, policies, and procedures, and providing nutrition education to others. Required abilities include determining nutritional needs, developing nutrition education plans, educating individuals and families about food and nutritional needs, participating in education or in-service training programs, and reaching, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 25 pounds.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition; registered nurse, APRN, or physician assistant. A valid driver's license is required. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree and bilingual proficiency.
