POSITION SUMMARY: Based in Wilmington, MA, the Principal Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in shaping innovative power and electrical solutions from concept through production. In this highly visible position, you'll lead complex engineering initiatives across applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and product documentation, helping bring cutting-edge technologies to market.You'll work directly with customers to understand their technical requirements, translate needs into effective engineering solutions, and influence product direction. Leveraging your technical expertise and systems-level thinking, you'll identify design challenges, recommend innovative solutions, and evaluate how engineering decisions impact product performance, manufacturability, reliability, and the overall customer experience.As a technical leader, you'll provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and engineering technicians, helping drive project success while fostering technical excellence across the team. You'll collaborate with senior leaders, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders both inside and outside the organization, serving as a trusted expert and key contributor to strategic engineering efforts.This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading high-impact projects, influencing product innovation, and working closely with customers to develop solutions that make a real difference.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the design and analysis of systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions to addressAssumes responsibility for the success of the product/system in the customers' applications and recommend/implement corrective actions as neededFollows key engineering procedures in the Product Development Process and ECO processWork with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing productsWORK ENVIRONMENT:Location: Wilmington, MAWorks in a standard office environment or engineering labUses electronic equipment and can work with high voltageDomestic and international travel of up to 10%Interfaces with internal and external customersOnsite technical support at customer locationsEXPERIENCE: EssentialProven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a full understanding of medical practices and company policies/procedures (10+ years of experience)Ability to solve complex technical problems independentlyAbility to manage multiple projects at one timeGood verbal, written communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to provide technical mentoring other team membersExperience with influencing and negotiating in complex situationsDesirable Power electronics design AC/DC and DC/DC switched mode power supply designPower Factor Correction designEMI and EMC design and resolutionMagnetic DesignRF Power DesignSimulation Package ExpertiseDesigning for Safety and Compliance (Medical background a plus) Understanding of firmware and codingDesigning for thermalsEDUCATION:Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) COMPENSATION: As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $165,000 to $215,000 per year.
