Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Production department, ensuring objectives are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. This role provides leadership to Production Supervisors, Leads, and Production Support employees while overseeing production planning, staffing, quality, inventory, and operational performance across kitchen, packaging, and related production functions. The Production Manager evaluates operational performance through key performance indicators, identifies opportunities to improve productivity and reduce waste, and supports the successful execution of manufacturing goals while developing future leaders within the production organization.


Working closely with Plant Manager and cross-functional departments, the Production Manager develops production schedules, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures efficient utilization of personnel, equipment, and resources. This position is responsible for fostering a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and employee development while maintaining compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), food safety requirements, quality standards, and applicable state regulations.

This role must be able to supervise packaging and kitchen operations interchangeably and work a flexible schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following

• Production Operations
  
  
  • Lead the day-to-day manufacturing operations; kitchen, packaging, and production departments to achieve production, quality, and efficiency goals.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust production schedules to meet business demands, inventory requirements, and customer commitments.
  • Ensure production resources, staffing, equipment, and materials are effectively allocated to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Monitor production performance and implement corrective actions to address operational challenges.
  
  

• Leadership & Employee Development
  
  • Oversee scheduling for team members, and delegation of work throughout the day
  • Lead, coach, and develop Production Supervisors, Leads, and Production Support employees.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, employee development, and succession planning.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching conversations, and recognition activities.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  
  

• Quality, Compliance & Food Safety
  
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, SOPs, GMPs, food safety requirements, sanitation standards, and state regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control activities throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Review production records, digital logs, batch documentation, and quality data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and traceability of products, ingredients, and production materials.
  
  

• Production Planning
  
  • Create and submit monthly Production and Dosing Planning for approval; adjusting as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Inventory, and Planning teams to ensure adequate production supplies and raw materials are available.
  • Monitor inventory levels, production yields, and material usage to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
  • Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliations, and production reporting.
  
  
• Continuous Improvement
  
  • Analyze production metrics and operational performance to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Lead initiatives focused on increasing productivity, improving product quality, reducing waste, and enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Support implementation of new equipment, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures.
  
  
• Communication & Administration
  
  • Prepare and review production reports, operational metrics, and department performance data.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and other departments to resolve production issues and improve workflow.
  • Effectively communicate production priorities, operational updates, and business initiatives to production teams and leadership.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support new product launches and manufacturing initiatives.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, experience, and abilities required to perform this role successfully.
Education & Experience

• At least 3 years of directly related experience and/or training in an automated food manufacturing, packaging or warehouse environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 1 year in a Lead, Keyholder, Supervisor or similar related role preferred
• Must have experience working with a high sense of urgency in a team environment or independently
• Must be able to understand and comply with sanitation, food safety and safety regulations

Ability & Technical Skills

• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively lead peers and communicate across teams.
• Ability to work with a strong sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
• Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and work management systems such as Slack, Jira, or similar platforms.
• Ability to travel occasionally between Company buildings or work sites, as needed.

Certifications & Compliance

• Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by applicable state regulations.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check, where permitted by law.
• Must obtain and maintain all licenses, permits, certifications, or registrations required by applicable federal, state, provincial, or local laws and regulations.
• ServSafe Certification or Food Handler's Card is preferred, where applicable.

• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

As an exempt employee , you'll receive a competitive salary of $73,000-$100,000/year plus bonuses, 11 paid holidays, 120 hours of PTO, 401K, and fully paid health, dental and vision insurance.
