Travel RN - Med/SurgAmerican TravelerEllsworth, Maine, United StatesPosition ID: P-762171Position status: OpenAssignment type: travelShift: VariableLength (weeks): 13Openings: 1Start date: 2026-10-26T00:00:00.000Z$2,323.00/week (estimated advertised weekly pay)DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 12-hour night shift position requiring a ME or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.Details27-bed Med/Surg unit within a 64-bed hospital12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per weekPatient population includes total joint replacements, general Med/Surg, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel cases, urology procedures (TURP, cysto), CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes management, and patients with addictions alongside other medical issuesRN patient ratios of 1:5-6 on days and 1:6-7 on nightsUses Cerner charting systemMay float to ICU for Med Surg level patients or to the ED to assist as helping handsWeekend rotation every other weekend, with travel pairs generally allowed to work the same weekendNo on-call requirementsHoliday coverage expected for 2 of 4 major holidays as neededRequirementsActive RN license (ME or Compact) requiredMinimum 2 years of RN experience requiredMinimum 1 year of experience in the specialty requiredBLS certification required; ACLS preferredExperience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), IV antibiotics, and heparin dripsAbility to read and interpret cardiac strips preferred but not requiredPrevious Charge RN experience highly preferred; candidates without this experience may be considered if willing to train and serve as Charge as needed during the contractMust not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health hospital in a permanent capacityAdditional InformationProvide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit supporting a diverse patient populationUnit supported by a Charge nurse most shifts, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, and centralized tele monitoringOne dedicated staff member assists with difficult IVs and central lines, though nurses are expected to attempt IV starts twice before requesting assistanceRapid Response is supported by in-house providers, respiratory therapy, ICU and ED charge nurses, unit charge, staff nurses, and nursing supervisorOrientation includes general hospital orientation plus one shift on the unitScrubs of any professional color are acceptedFree parking is available on-siteTime off requests require manager approvalFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyFlu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only considered upon review
