Role Description The Job Captain is a full-time, on-site role based in Santa Barbara, CA, responsible for managing the development and coordination of project documentation from design through construction. Day-to-day tasks include producing detailed drawings and specifications, coordinating with consultants and internal team members, and ensuring that design intent is accurately translated into construction documents. The Job Captain supports project architects and designers with technical problem-solving, code research, and quality control throughout all project phases. This role also involves attending client and consultant meetings as needed, tracking project milestones, and assisting with responses to contractor questions during bidding and construction. The Job Captain contributes to a collaborative studio environment, helping maintain high design standards and efficient project delivery. Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in architectural drafting and production of construction documents, including plans, elevations, sections, and details. Experience coordinating with structural, MEP, and other consultants to integrate their work into cohesive architectural sets. Solid understanding of building codes, permitting processes, and technical standards relevant to high-end residential and commercial projects. Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple tasks across project phases. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with comfort participating in team meetings and communicating with clients and contractors. Proficiency with industry-standard design and documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD or Revit, SketchUp or similar 3D tools, and Adobe Creative Suite) is highly beneficial. Experience in high-end residential, hospitality, or custom commercial architecture is preferred, especially in similar coastal or luxury markets. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a closely related field; progress toward professional licensure is a plus.
