• Position Type: Locum tenens anesthesiologist
• Start Date: January 1, 2026
• Duration: 12 weeks with potential for extension
• Shift Duration: 10-12 hour shifts
• Schedule: Monday-Friday coverage needed, approximately 1-2 weeks per month, with call and weekend coverage as needed
• Setting: Busy cardiothoracic anesthesia program in a high-acuity hospital environment
• Case Mix: Cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery, including TAVR, CABG, and MitraClip
• Care Team Model: Primarily supervisory, with the option to work your own cases if preferred
• EMR: Cerner and AIMS
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $20 per week
• Location: Asheville, NC 28801 — a scenic mountain city with a thriving arts scene, vibrant downtown, and year-round outdoor recreation

Job Requirements

• Active North Carolina medical license required
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Anesthesiology
• TEE certification required
• Recent experience managing complex cardiac patients required
• Comfort with trauma, high-complexity general anesthesia, regional blocks, major vascular cases, and cardiac anesthesia required
• Ability to function in a supervisory care-team model required
• Willingness to stay beyond scheduled hours if needed to ensure continuity of care
• At least 1 year of anesthesiology experience required

Responsibilities

• Provide anesthesia care for complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures
• Support high-acuity cases including TAVR, CABG, MitraClip, and other advanced cardiovascular surgeries
• Interpret TEE studies and apply findings to intraoperative decision-making
• Supervise CRNAs within a collaborative care-team model and manage own cases when appropriate
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology staff, and perioperative teams to promote safe, efficient patient care
• Provide call coverage and weekend coverage as needed to support continuity of care
