Outpatient Physical Therapist I

Position Summary Provide services that restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injury or disease. Restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health. Education Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s or doctoral degree preferred) from an accredited Physical Therapy program. Must hold a current New York State registration to practice in the State of New York and current BLS certification. Experience One (1) year clinical experience preferred in Outpatient Physical Therapy setting, but not required. Specialty or Board Certifications in varied Physical Therapy areas preferred but not required. New graduates welcome. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Competent in the performance of essential skills for any physical therapist, addressing all systems and the continuum of patient/client care throughout the lifespan. Examine patients’ medical histories and assess the patients’ strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor function. Apply diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and interpret, plan, establish, and implement treatment plans. Advise, consult, and teach appropriate treatment procedures and supportive activities to clients, family members, and others. Develop treatment strategies, articulate purpose and anticipated outcome, and analyze reports and data necessary for unit operations. Maintain necessary paperwork/case documentation to ensure accountability. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures. Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, conferences, and classes; serve on committees as assigned. Mathematical Skills Ability to perform calculations in all units of measure, including percentages, mean, mode, and median. Professional Skills Ability to evaluate the human body and formulate and administer a treatment plan based on physical therapy evaluation, including subjective information and objective tests and measurements; use various modalities; maintain accurate record-keeping and apply good judgment in performing duties; adhere to AMC policies and procedures; resolve grievances or disagreements; anticipate and resolve problems; evaluate, monitor, and direct financial aspects of clinical operation. Reasoning Ability Identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; improve job performance through continuing education. Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to probe, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, speak and hear. Often required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and stand for long periods; assist patients to turn, stand, or walk. May be required to lift patients and/or move heavy equipment up to 100 pounds and on rare occasions may be required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Work Environment May be subject to infectious materials and chemicals; noise level usually moderate; job requires working on-site. Necessary vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
