Warehouse Technician

Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES), Water, Sewer, and Streets (WSS) Bureau, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Warehouse Technician. This position performs a full range of technical and administrative duties related to warehouse and inventory operations supporting critical County services. This Warehouse Technician plays a key role in ensuring materials, tools, parts, and equipment are accurately received, stored, tracked, and distributed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner using an automated inventory asset management system. Responsibilities Major Job Duties: Maintaining automated inventory systems (Cartegraph) by recording materials as they are ordered, received, and dispensed and conducting periodic inventories of warehouse storage items; Receiving incoming shipments, verifying the accuracy and condition of materials, properly storing items, and notifying customers of material availability; Producing and analyzing usage reports using Microsoft Word and Excel to identify items requiring replenishment, disposal, or auction; Ensuring the safe and compliant storage of bulky, perishable, flammable, toxic, and hazardous materials in accordance with applicable safety regulations; Researching the availability of materials, parts, and equipment using supply manuals, catalogs, the Internet, and existing vendor contracts and responding to inquiries regarding inventory levels; Initiating purchase approval processes and ordering materials in accordance with standard purchasing policies and procedures and using the County's automated financial system; Tracking purchasing requests, recommending suitable parts or material substitutions, and resolving discrepancies with orders; Assisting with the loading and unloading of supplies using a forklift; Maintaining uniform inventory and coordinating the distribution of uniforms; and Participating in call-back duty after normal business hours and serving scheduled standby assignments. Note: The employee may be required to use a forklift to move heavy parts and to drive a county vehicle to pick up and/or deliver parts. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Some experience related to warehouse operations: including receiving, storing, issuing, and buying supplies/tools, materials, parts and equipment and maintaining the associated records systems; and Valid driver’s license. Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following: Working with a computerized inventory/supply system; Using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel; Using an automated financial system; and/or Operating a forklift. Special Requirements Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Driver's License: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver’s license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicant’s driving record. Alternatively, the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. Additional Information Work hours: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Hours subject to change based upon the needs of the department. Must be available on a rotating basis for stand-by as scheduled and on a regular basis for call-back in emergency situations. Working Conditions: The worker may be subject to cold (below 32 degrees) for periods of more than one hour and/or temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as snow, rain, hail, wind and humidity. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to one or more of the following conditions: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation, oils, and other cutting fluids. The worker may be exposed to infectious diseases. Physical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Starting salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.
