Help

You will serve as a Command Security Officer (Security Specialist) and be responsible for security policy and implementation for all Sector Charleston subordinate units and housing location.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Oversee and manage the physical security program, including inspections, access control, and security systems (CCTV, alarms).
• Manage the personnel security program, including processing clearances, conducting briefs, and continuous evaluation.
• Provide oversight for the handling and storage of classified information and computer systems, and conduct related inspections.
• Review, develop, and implement security policies and procedures; provide annual security training to all personnel.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

• Planning, managing, and resolving complex issues across all security domains (physical, personnel, etc.), including providing training, guidance, and oversight for all unit personnel.
• Applying knowledge of security equipment (e.g., alarms, CCTV, access control) and technical programs to identify vulnerabilities and secure sensitive areas and classified networks.
• Developing and applying guidance for security policies, procedures, techniques, and methods tailored to various work situations and security control levels.
• Inspecting operational security programs to ensure adequacy, efficiency, and compliance with guidelines, and responding to implementation challenges.
