Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Job Description

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery performs care interventions including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments. They assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while monitoring and communicating patient conditions to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.

The role includes assisting patients with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, nutrition, and ambulation. The RN collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, and referrals, while addressing spiritual and psychosocial support needs. They evaluate the learning needs of patients and families, providing education tailored to individual circumstances.

Additionally, the nurse circulates during C-sections, attends deliveries, and assesses neonates post-delivery. They are responsible for following appropriate policies during the recovery of surgical patients and must attend fetal monitoring certification classes every two years. The position requires NRP certification and participation in STABLE certification classes as offered.

Responsibilities

• Perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration
• Conduct specimen collection and other clinical treatments
• Monitor and communicate patient conditions effectively
• Assist patients with daily living activities
• Coordinate interdisciplinary patient care and support
• Evaluate and respond to learning needs of patients and families
• Circulate during C-sections and assist in deliveries
• Follow policies during recovery and care of surgical patients
• Attend neonatal assessments post-delivery

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must have ACLS, BLS, NRP, STABLE & AWHONN certifications (updated as per American Heart Association)
• Must have Alabama RN or multi-state RN license
• Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience in Level 1 Nursery, Postpartum, OB/GYN, and Labor & Delivery

• Shift: 19:00 - 07:00

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
