Systems Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer to support an internal program within the Department of Defense (Department of War). This position is on-site in Newington, VA. This is a direct‑hire opportunity supporting a mission‑critical federal program focused on secure virtual desktop infrastructure modernization. The Systems Engineer will design, administer, and optimize virtual desktop infrastructure solutions while supporting end‑user computing initiatives across a highly regulated environment. This role works closely with systems, network, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, compliant, and scalable VDI operations. Responsibilities Design and optimize virtual desktop infrastructure solutions supporting a secure Department of War program. Administer and maintain Omnissa Horizon environments on VMware vSphere to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability. Develop and deploy VDI images, including testing, validation, and lifecycle management. Implement automation workflows, scripting, and image‑management processes to streamline operations. Ensure compliance with security requirements, regulatory standards, and internal policies. Collaborate with systems, network, and cybersecurity teams to support end‑user computing initiatives. Required Qualifications 8+ years of systems administration experience in enterprise environments. Experience supporting Windows/Linux operating systems. Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies. Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper‑V. Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in customer‑facing environments. Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Security+ certification or higher. Active TS/SCI clearance with current eligibility.
