Description: 24-hour shifts in-house doing deliveries. Typically, 7-24 hour shifts per month. Some days may include Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, but weekends may be covered by locums or full-time family practice providers, so weekend work is not consistent. Midwives are always off post-call. Opportunities to see patients in the Women's Clinic are available, but this is not the primary purpose of the midwives. There is a designated call room. Midwives triage all patients, admit, deliver uncomplicated vaginal deliveries, and perform discharges on non-cesarean section patients. Physicians are consulted on complicated patients, perform operative deliveries, and round on those patients. Currently, there are 5-6 births per day. With a new hospital opening, an increase in births is anticipated, but that will take several months. Midwives can work 2 shifts with 24 hours between shifts. Midwives deliver patients' babies in birthing centers, patients' homes, or hospital settings. They provide emotional support and guidance before, during, and after labor. Additionally, they identify high-risk pregnancies and educate patients and their families on antenatal care and reproductive health.
