The Registered Dietitian assesses patients' nutritional needs, develops personalized meal plans, and provides evidence-based counseling to support wellness and disease management. This role relies on strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in a fast-paced hospital environment. The dietitian ensures that all nutrition interventions align with current medical guidelines and regulatory standards while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities:

• Assess patients' nutritional status by reviewing medical histories, lab results, and clinical data to identify nutrition-related problems.
• Develop individualized meal plans and medical diets that support disease management and overall wellness, following Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) guidelines.
• Provide evidence-based nutrition counseling and education to patients, families, and caregivers in a clear, supportive, and empathetic manner.
• Conduct clinical nutrition assessments and exams to monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
• Utilize nutrition analysis software and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems to document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely.
• Interpret complex lab results and other medical data to inform nutrition diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Ensure regulatory compliance in all aspects of nutrition care, including adherence to hospital policies, healthcare regulations, and nutrition standards.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Support hospital kitchen and cafeteria services by aligning menus and food preparation practices with prescribed diets and nutrition standards.
• Address and resolve nutrition-related issues or concerns through effective problem management and customer service.
• Educate patients and staff on healthy eating, special diets, and nutrition best practices to promote long-term health outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation to support quality assurance and continuity of care.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), including assessing, diagnosing, and treating nutritional problems through tailored medical diets.
• Strong clinical assessment skills to evaluate nutritional status and monitor patient progress.
• Ability to read and interpret complex lab results and medical data for nutrition-related decision-making.
• Experience with data analysis and charting in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
• Knowledge of health informatics and compliance, including understanding and applying HIPAA regulations.
• Competence in using nutrition analysis software to design and evaluate meal plans.
• Solid understanding of healthcare practices and clinical workflows in a hospital setting.
• Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Computer skills sufficient to work with digital platforms, charting tools, and telehealth technologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including pharmacy, nursing, and food service staff.
• Strong problem management skills to address nutrition-related issues efficiently and professionally.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in hospital kitchen or cafeteria services, with an understanding of food preparation processes.
• Nutrition, dietetics, or a related healthcare field.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance in clinical nutrition and food service operations.
• Comfort using telehealth platforms to provide remote nutrition counseling and follow-up.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple patients and documentation requirements.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and shifting patient needs.

Work Environment:

The role is based within hospital kitchen and cafeteria services, closely integrated with clinical care teams. You will work standard daytime hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some weekend coverage as needed. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, involving regular collaboration with clinical staff and food service personnel. You will use Electronic Health Records (EHR), nutrition analysis software, and digital health platforms as part of daily work. The setting combines clinical nutrition practice with operational awareness of food preparation and service in a hospital facility.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Whittier, CA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $46.97 - $46.97/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
