Tax Manager - Indirect Tax - Unclaimed Property and Escheat Services Location: New York Other locations: Anywhere in Country Date: Mar 27, 2026 Requisition ID: 1697120 Location: Anywhere in Country The opportunity Join our globally integrated team of dedicated indirect tax professionals and you'll have the opportunity to combine your technical knowledge and industry understanding to identify risks and sustainable planning opportunities for our clients. You'll help us provide effective processes, improve day‑to‑day reporting, reduce attribution errors and costs, and ensure indirect taxes are handled correctly for our clients. You'll likely spend much of your time engaging in client consultations and challenging the unclaimed property and escheat approach for optimal effectiveness. We'll look to you to develop strong relationships with our clients and team effectively with internal resources while developing and coaching junior members of the team. To make that happen, we'll look to you to implement your extensive knowledge of unclaimed property concepts and requirements. You can expect to be working in a highly collaborative culture, where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is an essential part of the role. Advise on indirect tax regulatory changes; design strategies, operating models, processes, and compliance frameworks that raise efficiency and meet requirements. Identify opportunities for tax optimization, credits and refund recovery, exposure reduction; manage strategies, compliance, remediation, controversies, and corrective filings. Support process review and technology transformation. Translate regulatory changes into practical compliance and reporting solutions. Implement operating models and frameworks across the indirect tax lifecycle. Lead optimization, recovery, and exposure‑reduction initiatives. Your key responsibilities Lead workstream delivery, track status and deliverables, and participate in client working sessions. Identify opportunities for additional services, contribute to RFPs, manage engagement economics, and implement resource plans and budgets. Guide teams, drive improvement, and recommend solutions by interpreting internal/external issues. Travel required regularly for external clients. Develop solutions to complex problems and select suitable methods and criteria. Recommend policy changes and establish procedures for your area or function. Apply depth of expertise to guide others toward quality solutions. Contribute to client satisfaction by providing timely and responsive services and work products. Stay informed of current technical developments and effectively apply knowledge to client situations. Thoroughly and accurately analyze information; prepare quality, practical approaches to the client's unclaimed property situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions. Demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex unclaimed property concepts. Participate in and contribute to achieving team goals. Meet locally set performance metrics across client service, quality, sales, solution development, and teaming. To qualify for the role, you must have ABachelor's degree and 5 years of related work experience CPA certification, Member of the US Bar or professional designation from the IPT A minimum of 5 years of relevant unclaimed property consulting experience within a professional services environment Technical expertise and experience related to compliance, audit defense and consulting for abandoned and unclaimed property services Performance and process advisory experience related to unclaimed property compliance Broad exposure to state and local taxation Excellent managerial, organizational, analytical and verbal/written communication skills Willingness to travel as needed, and working in a balanced hybrid environment Tax legislation and impact assessment. Tax planning and optimization. Audit quality and remediation techniques. Process improvement and optimization. Operating model design and analysis. Tax compliance and reporting requirements. Application and tool analysis. Building and managing relationships. Client trust and value. Communicating with impact. Complex problem solving. Critical thinking. Driving outcomes. Sector knowledge. Ideally, you’ll also have Experience leading workstreams across planning, execution, and closure. Contribution to RFP responses and sales growth. Practical management of engagement economics and resource planning. Daily participation in client working sessions and strong stakeholder management. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $105,100 to $192,600. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $126,100 to $218,900. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Our expectation is for most people in external, client‑serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
