Who We Are

Plug is a fast-moving commerce brand selling refurbished phones and connectivity. We sell through a large, custom Shopify storefront and through web experiences inside our Shopify mobile app. We ship constantly, measure everything, and run our own A/B tests.

The Role

You'll own and level up the plug.tech storefront and the web surfaces inside our mobile app. This is a hands-on senior engineering role: you'll build merchandising and personalization experiences, run experiments end-to-end, and keep a large, test-driven theme fast and reliable. You'll work directly with the founder. We lean heavily on AI tooling (Claude Code + MCP integrations) — you'll use it to move faster, not as a replacement for engineering judgment.

What You'll Actually Work On

• Ship and iterate on merchandising surfaces: Shop by Device / My Devices, iPhone & Android comparison pages, "For You" personalization, cart recommendations, gift guides.
• Design, launch, and read out A/B tests — our experiment framework is home-grown (client-side bucketing, consent-gated, measured in PostHog), e.g. navigation and product-page experiments.
• Build web pages that render inside our Shopify mobile app, including deep-link and query-param routing.
• Integrate and maintain third-party commerce apps (trade-in, reviews, referrals, wishlist, payments, email/back-in-stock) into the storefront.
• Keep the storefront fast and correct: Lighthouse performance budgets, structured-data/SEO, accessibility, and cross-device QA.
• Write the runbook, add the tests, own the release. Every feature ships with docs, tests, and CI checks — and you'll help keep the Shopify theme editor and Git in sync.

You're a strong fit if you have

• Fluency with AI-assisted development is required — you work daily in tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot and have strong judgment about when to trust them. This is how our team ships; it's non-negotiable.
• 4+ years building production Shopify Online Store 2.0 themes: deep Liquid, JSON templates, sections/blocks/snippets, metafields/metaobjects, settings schema, Shopify CLI and the theme editor.
• Excellent vanilla JavaScript and Web Components / custom elements (we do not use React or Vue in the theme), plus modern CSS/Sass and a real build toolchain (Webpack/Babel/PostCSS, Node, a package manager like Bun).
• A genuine experimentation / CRO mindset: you've run A/B tests, understand bucketing, sample size, and reading results — comfort with PostHog (or GA4/GTM) is a plus.
• Comfort in a test-gated, PR-based workflow: Git/GitHub, CI, linting, and writing tests (Node's test runner, Playwright).
• Care about performance, accessibility, and clean, documented code.

Nice to have

• Building web content that runs inside a mobile app (in-app WebViews) and deep-link routing.
• Experience integrating third-party commerce apps (trade-in, reviews, referrals, wishlist, payments, subscriptions/warranty).
• Structured data/JSON-LD and technical SEO.
• Comfort working closely with a founder in a high-velocity, ship-daily shop.

What we're not looking for

• "Theme editor only" / no-code Shopify configurators.
• Pure React/SPA engineers with no Liquid/theme depth.
• Native iOS/Android engineers — we build the web experiences in the app, not the app itself.
