Sr Staff Software Engineer

Responsibilities Job Summary: As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you'll provide end-to-end support to applications and identify ways to improve codebases, solutions to complex problems, and effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes. You'll make recommendations on overall application system designs, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance. Works independently with little oversight. May coach, direct the work, or review the work of others. Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions: Consults on solution development with Digital Leadership Team for out-of-guideline and / or strategic business and technology issues with far-reaching impact Translates complex business and technology needs into objectives, plans, specifications, resources, and long-term goals Serves as a strategic advisor to Digital Leadership Team on the development and implementation of new initiatives Creates collaborative networks across the broader organization Area of Focus: Serves as a technical leader within the organization. Helps to set goals and technical vision Influences business and technology direction; within their current organization Fosters an organizational culture of mentoring by seeking out mentoring opportunities for themselves and others and supports others in their growth as mentors Drives clarity and delivers with complete independence Work Complexity: Drives and defines technical strategy across teams they influence. Influences teams in their organization Work Breakdown: Reviews work across the portfolio critically and ensures it is appropriately broken down and prioritized across the organization Priority and Dependencies: Identifies dependencies within their organization and works to resolve them before they become an issue and installs preventative measures to mitigate repeat occurrences Works within their organization to foster a culture of priority setting and urgency in alignment with organizational strategy and business needs Dealing with Ambiguity: Owns risk, change, and uncertainty across their organization Supports vision setting by providing clarity where there is ambiguity Influences their organization to adopt changes Reacts to and adapts when faced with the unexpected, to reprioritize, and assess alternatives for long-term gain Reliability and Accountability: Manages their organization commitments, their progress, and roadmap to delivery Ensures expectations within their organization and external stakeholders are clarified between all parties involved Architecture, Coding and Testing: Expert understanding of architecture, design, and H-E-B systems Writes production-ready code and tests that meet acceptance criteria, are easily testable, documented, easily understood by other developers, and account for edge cases, security, and errors Creates and reviews platform-level architectures for strength of engineering solutions, namely scale, performance, security, sustainability, and iterative development potential Guides teams in their organization in anticipation of future use cases and helps them make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes Key representative to work with stakeholders to ensure the roadmap is well laid out, and architectural considerations are factored into efficient and iterative designs Application Support and Health: Leads production support, on-call, debugging, and troubleshooting of issues impacting multiple teams and services Leads incident response across the engineering organization for issues within their organization Identifies areas of improvement, establishes best practices, and leads change across the organization for system health Effective Communication and Knowledge Sharing: Communicates effectively across the company. Creates a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing across the organization Fosters a culture of delivering praise and constructive feedback across the organization Teamwork and Collaboration: Puts aside personal technology preferences to influence and deliver business value Works actively to help the organization improve teamwork and collaboration and ensures that the organization is continuing to evolve its practices in a healthy and sustainable way The responsibilities and essential functions outlined above describe the general nature and level of work assigned to this position. Qualifications & Key Requirements: Work Experience: 10+ years of experience in software development Experience with common software engineering tools (e.g., Git, Jira, Confluence) Extensive experience successfully producing consistent, high-quality results Experience writing unit tests and testable code Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Expert in in multiple programming languages, technologies, and frameworks Expert knowledge in system and data architecture, data modeling, and design and capable of architecting and designing at the application or service level using well-accepted design patterns Ability to review platform designs for strength of engineering solutions, namely performance, sustainability, and iterative development potential Expert knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, design patterns, system architecture and design patterns Expert understanding of the full SDLC and frameworks (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc.) For Android, expert at Android development and full lifecycle applications release on Marketplace / App Store For Android, in-depth experience with Kotlin, Dagger, Retrofit, Ok and RxJava / RxKotlin and similar technologies is desired For iOS, expert at iOS development and full lifecycle applications release on Marketplace / App Store For iOS, in-depth experience in Swift development and similar technologies is desired For Engineer in Test, expert knowledge of relevant technologies (e.g., Playwright, XCTest, Espresso, Saucelabs, Locust, JUnit) Partner leads and contributes to development of objectives and is accountable for results, which may impact the entire function. Ability to take ownership and responsibility for organizational best practices and processes and their continuous improvement. Empowers team to continuously improve process and development outcomes. Creates an environment of psychological safety. Effectively collaborates outside own organizational boundaries. Understand business strategies and priorities for stakeholders across the company. Leads production support, on-call, debugging, and troubleshooting of issues impacting multiple teams and services.
