Job Summary: The Education Assistant Director oversees the Academic Support Services, Language & Culture Preservation Coordinator, summer enrichment programming, Tribal Scholarship program, the Library and other assigned education grants and programs for the department in partnership with the Education Director. Supervises associated programming staff. Plans and facilitates department meetings, contractor’s duties; prepares program plans for after-school activities; serves as a liaison to families who have students participating in the after-school programs; and coordinates the schedules of staff who participate in the pickup and drop-off of student participants. Prepares reports for the director on current and proposed activities, prepares program updates on accomplishments, and provides qualitative and quantitative analysis of tracked activities.
Essential Duties:
- Prepares for the Director and Tribal Administrator review and approval, program plans on proposed or planned activities. This includes new programs initiated by the assistant director and assigned programs/projects/grants that come from the director.
- Designs operational infrastructure to enrich and expand the Language & Culture Preservation department development.
- Provides and develops plans and policies for the Language & Culture Preservation department and for the library.
- Governs, guides, sustains and coordinates the development of the Language & Culture Preservation department and for the library.
- Oversees implementation and evaluation of tutoring, Homework Club, and other assigned grants and programs.
- Coordinates with the Director to, supervise, and evaluate assigned department staff, support staff and contract staff.
- Provides department leadership in the Director’s absence.
- Provides backup and support to the Director in preparing for meetings, project completion, drafting reports, compiling data, etc.
- As assigned, collaborates with relevant departments on programming. This includes, but is not limited to, Language & Culture Preservation Coordinator, KLCC, event publicity (Communications), the library, and other special programming (Annual or bi-annual programming).
- For all assigned programs, designs, develops and maintains students tracking information on registration and participation.
- Oversees the enrollment of students into various programs and projects such as UNM HEP program for GED/HSE completion.
- Participates in responsibilities related to truancy of students in local schools, including follow up on Truancy Ordinance and cases.
- As a part of student registration, oversees the annual collection, compilation, and updating of school release forms.
Address, or escalate to the director as appropriate, issues and concerns related to programing. This may include but is not limited to student behavioral issues, parent/guardian concerns, school concerns, tutor concerns, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
- Master’s Degree preferred or 5-7 years relevant administrative, analytical, and leadership experience or combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Experience/Basic Knowledge: Leadership experience with program, personnel, and student development. Fund development and administration experience (federal and state levels) is highly desirable.
- Required Licenses/Certification: Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly.
Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran’s Preference.

- Ability to speak Keres preferred.
- Understanding of Pueblo cultural and traditional preferred.
