CNC Operator

CNC Machinist

Produces machined parts by setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines while maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

• K5
• 60' Press
• 20' Press
• Sub Arc Operator

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan machining operations by studying work orders, blueprints, plans, and machine parameters.
• Load machine with work pieces.
• Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample work pieces.
• Maintain specifications through troubleshooting, measuring, sharpening, and tool replacement.
• Support organizational goals through ownership and initiative.
• Meet production goals in cycle time, quantity, and quality.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of metal properties and related materials.
• Knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
• Experience in heavy structural fabrication.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
• Proficient in the effective operation of welding equipment.

Safety Requirements:

• Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain orderly and clean work areas.
• Attend all required safety meetings.
• Inspect equipment daily to ensure safety standards are met.
• Inspect tools daily before use, including extension cords.
• Use hand and power tools safely with proper guards in place.
• Wear appropriate PPE for assigned tasks.
• Required PPE:
• Fire/flame resistant clothing.
• Heavy flame-resistant gloves.
• Respirators when welding harmful metals or ventilation is inadequate.
• Steel/hard toe boots.
• Hearing protection.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to withstand bending, squatting, or crouching.
• Ability to frequently handle tools, equipment, or materials.
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions including cold, heat, and humidity.
