Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 12-hour night shift assignment requiring an active IL RN license and prior Med/Surg experience.

Details

• > Level 2 trauma hospital's Medical Surgical unit
• 37-bed unit with a combination of private and semi-private rooms
• Patient ratios are 1:4-6 on day shift and 1:5-6 on night shift
• CNA support at a ratio of 1:10-15
• Charge nurses are typically available 24/7 and may take patient assignments as needed
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00pm-7:30am
• Required to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for night shift
• May require working every other holiday depending on schedule
• No call requirement
• May float to other units within competency, taking a full patient assignment when floating
• Unit treats patients on telemetry monitoring (monitored centrally with strip visualization on the floor), with Lasix and Heparin drips being common
• No ventilator patients on the unit, though BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow patients are cared for
• In-house hospitalist coverage during day shift with APN and eHospitalist coverage overnight
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Common diagnoses include COPD, sepsis, CVA, COVID, and pneumonia, as well as surgical patients (hip/knee replacements, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resections)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• BSN not required for this position
• Acute care Med/Surg experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to a Med/Surg patient population with a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses
• Unit orientation includes 2 days in the department plus 1 day of hospital and EMR orientation
• No specific scrub color required; approved OSF logo gear may be worn with scrub pants
• No IV team on-site; nursing supervisor assists with medication needs as pharmacy coverage is limited to daytime with an ePharmacist available after hours
• Self-scheduling is available, though the manager will finalize schedules due to the short contract length
