Job Overview Sr. Aeromechanical Engineers work to solve the nation's hardest problems through rapidly deployed technology solutions. Are you an aerospace or mechanical engineer stuck in a narrow job? This job is a lead aeromechanical engineer that takes napkin sketches of airplanes and robots to final production. We work with small teams to move fast and make fielded systems. Here you will lead a small agile team to make these systems a reality from napkin sketch to 1.0 prototype.Essential FunctionsSenior role within the engineering team that helps lead in the design and development of UAS products and subsystems.Opportunity to build and tests prototype systems to validate designsHave decision-making abilities for design challenges and coordination with multidisciplinary engineering groupsPerformance of all vehicle designs from initial concept to complete production-ready designConduct presentations (Formal and Informal) on designs.Uses scientific and engineering principles to assess deficiencies in any given design and the impact of potential changesMakes complex decisions to meet stated and derived requirementsComplete assigned tasks within the project schedule and budgetProvide guidance and mentorship to others in both their discipline and company valuesConduct FEA and CFD simulation analysis on aircraft and powerplantsDesign airframes and other aeromechanical partsAct as an interface to customers as ideas are communicatedTravel as requiredStandard Essential FunctionsRegular and reliable attendance on a full time basis [or in accordance with posted schedule]. Embodies AEVEX's cultural values and aligns daily actions with department goals and company culture.Qualifications and CompetenciesDemonstrated competence in Mechanical Engineering processes and design/analysis tools, solving Mechanics & Kinematics problems, solving Thermodynamics problemsExperienced in successfully designing mil-y electronics productsDemonstrated understanding of metallic, plastic, and composite material propertiesDemonstrated ability to solve basic structural dynamics problemsProficiency in SolidWorks, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is requiredDemonstrated understanding of industry design and documentation standards (GD&T, ASME, Change Control, etc.)Experienced with designing: machined parts, composite parts, injection molded parts, sheet metal parts, wire assemblies, and mechanical assemblies for low, medium, and high-volume manufacturing processesExperienced with: mechanical, lab, field, flight, and environmental testingDemonstrated understanding of engineering configuration management processesDemonstrated ability to work with high-level program requirements, organize, schedule, and delegate tasks to an engineering teamDemonstrated leadership experienceEducation / CertificationsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace EngineeringMinimum of 8+ years of experience in a progressive technical capacity within an engineering organizationPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
