Posting Summary - Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer for the Rutgers School of Medicine (RWJMS/NJMS). The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the senior financial executive for Rutgers School of Medicine and is accountable for all school-wide finance functions, including Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Accounting, Business Operations, Research Administration, Budget Management, and Financial Compliance. The CFO provides strategic leadership and oversight of the school's financial resources, ensuring alignment with Rutgers University and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) priorities. The CFO leads the development and execution of financial strategies that support the academic, research, clinical, and administrative missions of the School of Medicine. The position serves as the principal advisor to the Executive Vice Dean on financial matters. The CFO champions fiscal stewardship, operational excellence, financial transparency, and long-term sustainability across the institution.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Provide executive leadership and oversight for all School of Medicine finance functions including FP&A, Accounting, Business Operations, Research Administration, and departmental financial operations.
• Develop and implement financial strategies that support the school's academic, research, clinical, and operational goals.
• Direct the preparation, review, and submission of the annual School of Medicine operating and capital budgets.
• Conduct final review and approval of budget submissions before presentation to RBHS leadership and governance bodies.
• Monitor financial performance through monthly and annual reporting processes and ensure timely analysis of variances, trends, and risks.
• Establish, interpret, and approve school-wide financial policies, procedures, and controls consistent with Rutgers University and RBHS requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), university policies, federal and state regulations, sponsored research requirements, and auditing standards.
• Provide oversight of procurement, expense management, payroll allocations, reimbursement processes, and financial reporting activities.
• Provide financial review and approval of faculty recruitment business plans, startup packages, strategic investments, and research initiatives.

Mid Range Salary - 317004.000

Maximum Salary - 383686.000

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience - Master's Degree in Business Administration or business-related field is required. Minimum ten (10) years of progressive management experience with fiscal, operational and personnel responsibilities, preferably in an academic environment, is required.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Strong knowledge of and experience with financial and administrative systems (financial information systems, purchasing, payroll and human resources). Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills, and the ability to attend to multiple demanding priorities. Exhibit a positive customer service attitude. Ability to work independently and professionally with limited supervision. Ability to identify and proactively address potential problems or issues.

Preferred Qualifications - CPA, CFA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.
