Veterinarian

Associate Veterinarian – Small Animal GP

Marina Pet Hospital | Marina, California

Full-Time or Part-Time

Great medicine shouldn’t require giving up your life outside of work.
Marina Pet Hospital is an independently owned small animal practice that has cared for pets and families throughout the Monterey Bay community since 1968.

We’re looking for an Associate Veterinarian who wants something increasingly difficult to find in veterinary medicine: time to practice thoughtfully, a team you can count on, and a schedule that leaves room for a life outside the hospital.

We are open Monday–Friday with a consistent work schedule and closed on weekends, with no after-hours, no on-call, and no emergency shifts. Appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes, giving you the time to build relationships, educate clients, and practice medicine without being pushed through a high-volume schedule.

Whether you’re an experienced veterinarian looking for more autonomy and balance or a new/recent graduate looking for meaningful mentorship, we’d love to meet you.

Why Marina Pet Hospital?

A schedule built for sustainability

Flexible PT and FT options are available, structured around 10-hour days and a consistent weekly schedule. Full-time doctors enjoy three consecutive days off every week, with no weekends, after-hours, on-call, or ER shifts.

30-minute appointments

We believe good medicine takes time. Our appointment structure gives our doctors room to listen, educate, and provide thoughtful care.

A team that stays

Some of our technicians have been with Marina Pet Hospital for 13–16 years. Our experienced, cross-trained support team works collaboratively with our doctors, with approximately a 4:1 technician-to-doctor support ratio.

Independent practice. Real autonomy.

We’re privately and independently owned. You’ll have the opportunity to practice medicine collaboratively, share ideas, and help shape how the hospital evolves rather than fitting into a one-size-fits-all model.

Mentorship that’s actually available

New and recent graduates are welcome. Mentorship is available directly from our practicing owner and experienced veterinarian, who bring a combined 63 years of clinical experience, including extensive surgical experience.

An opportunity to grow with us

We’re thinking beyond simply filling an open position. For the right veterinarian who sees a future here, there may be opportunities to take on greater clinical leadership and potentially explore a longer-term ownership path.

What You’ll Have to Work With

Our hospital combines the personal feel of an established community practice with modern clinical tools, including:

• Digital radiography
• Handheld dental radiography
• Imagyst AI-assisted in-house cytology
• Full in-house laboratory
• Pulse cloud-based practice management software
• AI-assisted documentation/scribing technology
• Dedicated surgical suite
• Experienced, cross-trained support team

Our caseload is primarily dogs and cats, with an established and loyal client base built over more than five decades.

A strong interest and/or experience in surgery is required. We’re also open to veterinarians who bring other clinical interests and want room to develop them.

Compensation & Benefits

ProSal compensation with a base salary of $160,000–$185,000 plus production, with no negative accrual, commensurate with experience and schedule.

Our package also includes:

• 401(k)
• Paid time off
• Approximately $4,800 in flexible benefit dollars that can be customized around what matters most to you—including CE, a health stipend, additional PTO, or another agreed‑upon benefit
• Flexible full-time or part-time scheduling
• No after-hours, on-call, or emergency shifts
• Potential housing assistance for the right relocating candidate

Who We’re Looking For

We’re open to experienced veterinarians, early‑career doctors, and new graduates.

You’ll likely thrive here if you:

• Enjoy building relationships with clients and educating pet owners
• Value collaboration with technicians and support staff
• Want autonomy while still having other doctors available for collaboration
• Appreciate a busy practice but don’t want a high-volume, assembly‑line environment
• Are adaptable, communicative, and comfortable working as part of a close‑knit team
• Want a practice where you can stay, grow, and make an impact

Work Where Other People Vacation

Marina is located along California’s beautiful Central Coast in the heart of Monterey Bay, just minutes from Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove, and the Pacific Ocean.

Whether your ideal day off means the beach, hiking, biking, exploring the coast, great food and wine, or simply enjoying three consecutive days away from work, this is a location—and a schedule—that makes it possible.

Come See What Makes Marina Different

A job posting can only tell you so much about a hospital. Come meet our team, spend some time in the practice, and see for yourself whether Marina Pet Hospital feels like the right fit.
