JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE : Rehabilitation & Nursery Specialist REPORTS TO : Shelter Cat Care Manager STATUS : Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY

Assist the veterinarian with exams and take care of the everyday needs of cats in rehabilitation and nursery.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Uphold the PETS work culture agreement through Praise, Engagement, Trust, and Support. Administer medication, provide subcutaneous fluid therapy and enrich animals. Record observations and treatments in ShelterLuv. Perform feeding and cleaning of housed animals. Admit and provide housing, transfer patients and route all paperwork accordingly. Perform fecal and blood tests as needed. Record fecal and blood test results in ShelterLuv. Maintain rehabilitation and nursery areas including kennels, countertops, cabinets and floors. Report all building, caging and environmental problems to a manager or maintenance staff member as soon as possible. Assist Veterinarian with restraining animals during physical exams and vaccines. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers and general public. Must have a sense of caring for animals.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

Minimum of one year of experience working in this field or related field preferred. Note: A comparable combination of education, experience or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability required may qualify individuals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to handle work around and physically restrain companion animals. Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Due to nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Available to work an extended schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings and holidays according to demands of the role.
