Government Contracts Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Government Contracts Associate Attorney with 2–4 years of transactional experience to join a leading global law firm and its growing Government Contracts & Public Procurement practice in Washington, D.C. This is an excellent opportunity for a transactional attorney with an interest in government contracts and the aerospace and defense industries to work on sophisticated matters involving leading companies, private equity firms, and emerging businesses.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have a strong transactional background, with mergers and acquisitions experience preferred , and a demonstrated interest in government contracts and aerospace/defense matters. The attorney will advise clients on the government contracts aspects of sophisticated transactions and work alongside attorneys across the firm's corporate and regulatory practices.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on government contracts and public procurement matters.

• Support sophisticated M&A transactions involving government contractors and companies operating in the aerospace and defense industries.

• Assist private equity firms, small businesses, defense technology companies, and other clients with government contract-related aspects of transactions.

• Conduct legal research and analysis regarding federal and state government contracts laws and regulations.

• Assist with contract negotiations, compliance matters, investigations, and related government contracts issues.

• Analyze transactional matters for government contracts considerations and potential regulatory requirements.

• Collaborate with attorneys across practices to provide practical, commercially focused advice to clients.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of transactional law firm experience.

• Mergers and acquisitions experience preferred.

• Demonstrated interest in government contracts and the aerospace/defense industry.

• Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.

• Outstanding academic credentials.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

• Admission to the District of Columbia Bar or eligibility for admission by waiver required.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $235,000–$310,000 annually , depending on class year, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits.
