Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $136,850.00 - $215,625.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)

About This JobThis role is heavily focused on new business development and is ideal for a commercial banker who thrives on prospecting, relationship building, and driving growth in the marketplace. You’ll lead the charge in identifying, cultivating, and winning new commercial clients—targeting middle‑market and larger companies—while expanding wallet share with select existing relationships. As the primary rainmaker for your portfolio, you’ll proactively call on prospects, uncover complex financing opportunities, and partner with internal product experts to deliver customized credit and treasury solutions that meet evolving client needs. While ongoing relationship management is part of the role, the primary emphasis is on originating new business, structuring innovative deals, and strengthening the bank’s presence in the community. This is a high‑visibility opportunity for a results‑driven banker who is energized by growth, networking, and turning opportunity into long‑term client partnerships.

Essential Functions

• Reach out to assigned customers and targeted prospects with the objective to acquire new business

• Serve as the primary advisor for an assigned portfolio of diverse and complex commercial relationships, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and retention

• Coordinate with product partners to cross-sell a full range of products and services

• Critically review and analyze portfolio to reduce risk and enhance profitability

• Facilitate credit requests, including loan structuring, negotiating/pricing, collateral, ensuring adequate loan documentation, and analyzing industry/credit risk

• Facilitate the resolution of customer problems, engaging product experts as needed

• Participate in community and business functions/groups to ensure a positive image for the bank and to establish referral contacts within the marketplace

• Ensure compliance with all bank policies, procedures, regulations, and laws

• Manage a portfolio of commercial relationships with some or all of the following characteristics:

• Average loan portfolio O/S of $100MM to $150MM

• Average deposit portfolio of $50MM to $100MM

• Annual contribution of $750M to $1.5MM

• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Strong knowledge of full range of commercial products, credit policies, procedures and terminology

• Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Commerce Bank’s driving record criteria; ongoing employment may be contingent upon meeting all driving requirements

• Strong time management skills, with ability to appropriately prioritize calling activities and strategies

• Goal oriented with well-developed sales skills

• Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to mentor and provide leadership to junior roles

• Experienced at structuring complex credit requests

• Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities

• Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values

• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience required

• 5+ years of commercial banking experience required

This compensation range is for the Commercial Banking Relationship Manager III and Senior job and contemplates a wide range of factors that are considered in determining most appropriate job level and making compensation decisions, including but not limited to location, skill sets, education, relevant experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has been adjusted for any applicable differentials (geographic, bilingual, or shift) that could be associated with the position or where it is filled. At Commerce, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $136,850 to $215,625 annually. This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.
